I heard dettol actually does a good job at stripping the paint of the models. But I also read on some fourms that the formula changed, can anyone prove that dettol still does its job at stripping models without any negative effects? (melting, etc.)

Dettol can, and the formula hasn't changed enough for our reasons. The key ingredient in Dettol is Isopropyl Alcohol - it is what kills germs, and eats paint.

Downsides: smells like satan's ballsweat, murders resin, more expensive than simple Iso

Upsides: available everywhere, works, safe to touch

Personally, I just use Iso - some weirdos actually like the smell of Dettol though.

Thanks mate! Thinking of picking up some dettol to strip my skaven army and leave them alone till I get /all/ of my paint. I'm learning! I'm a year old in his hobby so I am learning. And I've found some nice tips online about painting models so. Want to try again with a blank slate.

Give it a go, it will work after a decent soak.

Biostrip 20 is apparently amazing, but is expensive to get here - might be easier over there.

Hardware stores sell gallons of Isopropanol pretty cheaply, that'd be my go to.

Key thing I've found with Dettol is to scrub as much of the paint off in the Dettol before you wash the model off; as soon as it hits water the Dettol/paint mixture turns into really sticky goop. Warm soapy water gets it off, but it can take quite a bit of scrubbing if you've left a lot of paint on the model.

Absolutely, same problem with IPA too. Generally I try to keep it submerged while scrubbing it, but that really requires gloves.

Dettol doesn't kill resin. It sometimes softens Finecast.

That said, it's stinky as hell and can take days.

Here's what 50 minutes in Biostrip can do in comparison. It just washes off like a sad ballon.

It doesn't like some paints, and requires two or three tries. But yes, it's amazing.
Also fun.

Essex , U.K.

I use Dettol ,

And Im a weirdo as i do quite like the smell.

But definately dont use any water when cleaning , soak for a day , a month whatever ya fancy then take to it with a dry toothbrush.

wait untill your happy with result before washing model in warm soapy water.

Fairy power spray can also be pretty good and doesnt take long to act on the paint. But for me Dettol is always my go to stripper

I may be out of Biostrip Idk if US sells it. Amazon and Wal Mart doesn't have Biostrip. That tells you something DX

Yup. Googled Biostrip 20. . .Most of the sites are ending with UK . . Welp. US does not sell Biostrip, it's only UK.

Woooow. The iso. rubbing alcho. Really does its job. I straight up bought 91% proof. Eats at the undercoat too. So I had to touch them up with a spurt there n there.

I use acetone free nail polish remover. It works on metal and plastic figures (haven't tried resin yet). I've never seen any noticeable loss in detail. Also it's really easy to find, any pharmacy or make up shop. Just leave models to soak for about 20-30 minutes and then give a good scrub with a plastic dish brush or tooth brush.
