Does anyone use Fighter Ace? What's the general consensus on it?
35pts is a lot but the chance for outflanking vendettas among other things sounds pretty awesome.

Is this skies of death stuff? For a lot of people, things that aren't a codex or supplement have no general consensus, even forgeworld is iffy,

It's absolutely hit or miss depending on armies. My Tyranids now always have it on my Warlord when she has wings. Making the painful concession of dropping my 3rd Edition walking Tyrant for a Flyrant was bad enough, but atleast I can still make the Queen of my Hive a bit more unique than the mass produced 240pt version.
But 35pts is a hefty chunk in some armies. I've never bothered with Space Marines but I don't own a Fire Raptor or similar awesome bird. If I did, that would be another story. There are enough benefits there even on the 'bad' options to be worth the gamble.
Other ones like CSM I wouldn't bother with. Too much risk. 1/3 times you WILL get an option that doesn't help. Oh goodie, your Baleflamer has +1 BS. Or your Hell Talon has better Vector Strike... Not worth it unless you have absolutely nothing else to add to a list. Automatically Appended Next Post: Deadshot wrote:Is this skies of death stuff? It is a supplement. It's in the Leviathan Campaign Book. No one no matter how inclusive they take the game can say that the rules in there are not viable. It's even more clear cut than Forge World considering it has a lot of the Tyranid codex in it. I'd have to wonder if these groups also disallow Kauyon and Mont'ka for Tau and Space Marine additions...

In my defence I didn't realise it was in Leviathan, I thought it was skies of death. And those people could argue for it being a campaign book and the rules being only valid in campaigns, its not a CODEX supplement, its a game supplment like Apoc and CoD. Anyone could make arguments if they needed.

I don't like them at all. You pay good points for 1/3th the chance on getting the thing you want and the rest is usually really bad.

The Eldar one is pretty good... Combo'd with vector dancer your Crimson Hunter can basically turn 180 degrees and hit what is behind him.
Tau's is also not bad. 1) +1 Bs is needed, 2) free markerlights are always good 3) prevents crew stunned i think... not bad as you cant get velocity locked with this i believe

Are you allowed more than one fighter ace? A quick Google search found these rules from leviathan and I interpret as you can only have one. http://www.40kings.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/1416418108677.jpg

You can have only 1 fighter Ace in normal games of 40k.. If you are playing specific Skys of Fury missions I believe you can have more than 1 fighter Ace.
And really it comes down to what you and your opponent decide.

I recently read a daemons tactic for a ++2/re-roll lord of change.
Buy the ++3 invul relic. You now always have a ++3, nice.
Fighter ace, on a 5 or 6, its +1 invul save, sweet, but that is a nasty risk.
Now you roll ML3 on malefic, great, chance for cursed earth.
Still fail? Tzeentch warlord trait, 1/6 chance for that +1 invul.
If you succeed on any of them, you have an S8 FMC hopping around the table whacking stuff in the face (10pt weapon is +2S) with a re-rollable ++2.
Downside is if all those fail, and you are stuck with the ++3, and you fail a save, you do a leadership test. You fail that, you die.
