Nancy Reagan, the widow of President Ronald Reagan and passionately devoted keeper of his flame, died Sunday morning of congestive heart failure at 94, according to her spokesperson.

Reagan died at her home in Los Angeles. She's set to be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, next to her husband. Prior to the funeral, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects at the Library, the spokesperson said. Details had not yet been announced Sunday afternoon.
Reagan, whose husband died in 2004, had appeared frail after suffering several falls in recent years. In May 2012 it was disclosed she had broken several ribs in a fall at her Los Angeles home six weeks earlier.

Although she initially worked as an actress, the former first lady was, first and foremost, Mrs. Ronald Reagan.

"My life really began when I married my husband," Nancy Reagan once said, and for 52 years of marriage they were a fiercely close and devoted couple.

May she rest in peace.

That's a shame. She lived a long life, and although she was not much in the spotlight, I remember her using her position to advocate against drug abuse.

“Just say ‘No’” caught a lot of flack at the time IIRC. Fist Ladies generally are big advocates of issues affecting the nation’s citizens, and drug use was a big one that needed to be focused on.

RIP

94 is a good run by any definition.

I think that, regardless of your political leanings, Ronald and Nancy Reagan had a relationship that was to be looked up to. If there is an afterlife, I hope she has joined her husband and is happy once more.

She helped to dial back a couple decades of policy with that statement. Her husband could have focused on supply eradication without funding traffickers. But we ended up with the start of mandatory minimums for weights of drugs. "Just Say No" and it's concurrent "hardline" stance on "dangerous drugs" like cannabis are a farce and have only harmed America and helped anyone violent and ruthless enough to try and control that money flow to gain power. Her husband was arming and sending money to coke dealers while he denounced it. Then he put on a big show of arresting them when they got out of line (Noriega).

It's sad to see anyone die as death is horrible and inevitable. But why should I feel bad about her legacy?

IMO, the inevitability of death means that it isn't horrible. There are certainly terribly ways of dying, but dying of "being 94" certainly isn't one of them.

Well 50 years from now 94 may be a young age to die but as it stands she had a good live, RIP Nancy Reagan.

Couldn't agree more. The War on Drugs has been an unmitigated disaster, and what's worse is that though most people in politics and amongst the citizenry realize this, no one in politics seems willing or able to bring it to an end. Not joyful over her passing by any means, and I do tend to think she meant well and was earnestly trying to encourage children to not get involved with drugs, but we shouldn't sugarcoat her legacy for whatever reason.
