Subject: Are Dark Eldar allowed to take a super cheap Lhamaean HQ? Do you feel that is cheating?

This was never resolved in a FAQ because of GW laziness.
Is the standard accepted practice in ITC enviroments that DE CAN take a single Lhamean as their HQ choice. Also why does it have to be an Lhamean, can it not be any of the other character in the Court of the Archon?

I'm fine with it as the book needs the option given their power level and the general gimped nature of their HQs.

In times where 3 riptides + a free bonus are perfectly legal detachments, a dirt cheap HQ is not an issue for me.

RAW, it's perfectly legal. I don't agree with it and wouldn't do it myself, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone taking it. I don't consider it cheating, more taking advantage of broken mechanics.

There's not really a "debate" or "frequently asked question" about this. A court of the archon is an Hq choice. If you want to stop that from being an Hq purely because it's a cheap option that isn't fluffy to someone who has no idea what they're talking about (there's no reason a high ranking dark Eldar like a lane an shouldn't be allowed to lead a raid...) then I'll say that's legitimate when Ork Dok's and Weirdboyz, Techmarines, Spiritseers, Warlocks, command squads, Sanguinary Priests, etc aren't allowed to be HQs.
There are a ton of cheap HQs. There are a ton of squad HQs (seer council command squad royal court company command squad etc). What's the need to nerf one of the worst armies in the game?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Because it doesn't need a FAQ, they're a hq choice.
It can be any of the court, but the llameans are common because they're the cheapest. If you're going to use a tax hq, why not not use the least expensive one? I'd consider shelling out the extra 15 points for a Medusa though.
Also not uncommon to take a second one to get another venom with splinter cannon if you're going for a flotilla of boats and restricted to 1 CAD.
Not sure what you're so upset about?
