So I've been trying for ages to paint black armour but it just never ends up looking good. I want to get that blue black look using the Citadel colour range and also using a brush (no airbrush yet). Any good tutorials for this?

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I always paint black armour from a white or mid-grey primer. Then wash using 2-3 layers of black/blue/whatever tone colour I want to mix in.

The Warlocks at the back are painted in this way.

To many unpainted models to count.

The trick with black armor is simply in highlighting. If you have good highlighting skills, doing nothing more than basecoat + highlight will make a black armored model look decent. Beyond that, it's looking for opportunities to create contrast; fortunately, with black, *everything* bright creates contrasts, so it's just a matter of using colors in those contrasting elements that look good.

If you want to try something reallllllllly cool.

Black Primer
Black Base
Silver Drybrush (dark preferred)
PURPLE wash
Bright Silver highlights ( like nicks, edging etc)

This works great for the fantasy range not sure how it would look up 40k.
