I've been searching around for some artillery carriages similar to the ones forgeworld produce, £73 for one earthshaker carriage is fething insane. I have managed to find a nice alternative for the earthshaker but its from a Kickstarter page and wont be shipped until September
Google brought up some results of 1:35 scale WW1 and WW2 artillery pieces but I'm not sure how well these will fit in with the 40k look. Anyone know of some nice, cheaper alternatives then the madness FW is trying to push?

Get a 1:48 Flak 88 and strap some skulls onto it. Now you have a skinnier earthshaker.

Check out amazon for 1/72 M2 155mm Gun Long Tom, i used it for mine and outside of having to cut down the legs and the barrel and constructing a blast shield it looks pretty darn good (ill have to remember to throw a picture up here for comparison. Any of the 1/72 are good, plus if you dont mind spending a little but not forgeworld Victoria Miniatures is supposed to be making one as well (and her models are bomb)

The one you mention from Victoria Minis is the one that won't ship until September unfortunately, and it is probably the best alternative model I have seen so far.
I may have to cancel that pledge and go with the Gun Long Tom however... Can't beat $12 bucks a model!

That long tom ww2 artillery is a godsend for R&H players. It's pretty widely used as a substitute for FW earthshakers. Right out of the gate they have the wheels that don't fit with 40k, plus R&H can't get the vehicle to make their artillery move, so I axed the wheels and am replacing them with sandbags. The model itself is already slightly larger than the FW one, the legs are longer IIRC. I believe I saw some tournament pics where FW ones could fit on oval bases, these ones cannot. I have never had anyone complain. Below is a pic of my Medusa, still has a bit to go, some sand bags and chaos bits need to be added, and paint needs to be thrown on it, but you get the general idea. Recently I purchased 5 more, bringing me up to 8, though I had to purchase the set that comes with little figures, the bonus is that it also comes with shells, which I plan on using for "count as crew" markers. to place inside the artillery legs, where LoS wont matter at all. Getting legitimate artillery crew minis is a pain in the butt, especially when you need 8 minis per artillery, and you have 8 artillery!
The nice thing is the barrel rotates and moves up and down, so it can be positioned like a tank turret. Artillery doesn't need to aim at anything, but it helps for deploying. Legs moving is very useful too, you can imagine how cumbersome these huge models can be to deploy. I am trying to find out the exact length of the FW artillery model, wheels included, to make sure mine is the proper length.

What do you guys think of this?
http://www.hobbylinc.com/hasegawa-88mm-gun-flak-18-plastic-model-military-diorama-1:72-scale-31110
Is it too small? It's 1/72 but I thought 1/72 was too small to match GW stuff.

Yeah, that is way too tiny. Even if it was to scale, that model doesn't properly represent what the artillery piece is.
There is an easy way to do this that isn't as cheap as $12, but isn't as expensive as $70. You buy a basilisk and find someone who wants to buy the chimera hull from you.
You now have the gun, and you can kitbash, plasticard, or whatever the legs, which are the easy part. No one is going to rage at you for not having the wheels, as long as the general size of the model is the same. You could also use the chimera hull to create griffon tanks.

You are right, I saw the dimensions after I posted that. Check these out though:

They are currently out of stock but I would keep an eye on them. What do you think? The site has some other potential stand ins as well.

I was thinking of using the Revell PzH 2000 as alternatives for the FW enclosed Basilisks. It fits the boxy aesthetic and size of the FW model quite well and I can get 4 of them for the price of one FW model. Add a few aquilas or winged skulls for the 40k aesthetic et voilà!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up purchasing from Kromlech, they have some nice Thudd gun sized mortars that I can use in the meantime. I'll probably end up grabbing a few of the Long Toms too since they're dirt cheap and fit the look nicely.
Also grabbed some gun carriages from Kromlech to use as rapier gun platforms. All in all, 3 mortar carriages and 4 rapier carriages for about $100.

Getting there, but still very tiny, the whole thing measures 6". I believe the earthshakers gun is about that long on it's own!
For rapiers, I have been splitting those mechanicus tread people kits with a local dude. He is cool with converting up something different for the treads, while I keep the treads. Then I slap some lascannons on them! I have a 3rd set that I plan on magnetizing so I can use them as CSM rapiers as well. I took a look at the different weapons they can have, some are pretty sweet. The heavy bolter set up is hilarious, the autocannon is my favorite though.
Be warned - the Ordnance Tyrant path is a disgustingly brutal army, and your opponents wont care that you lack a movement, CC, or psychic phase, they will just moan about how long the shooting phase is, especially if you take quad mortars.

I have been seeking cheap Earthshaker cannons. Even if only to bolt onto anything that can move.... Those Long toms look perfect. Same with the potential Basilisk.
Mortars less so but any and all cheaper alternative that still look cool is great.
Thank you random thread. May the Omnissiah watch over you.

No help with quad/thud guns, but in my guard army I use basilisks for genuine earthshaker cannons, on the default platform, and then use the chassis as open topped-chimeras for my platoon command squads.... just detail the interior a little with any leftover vehicle parts...

I bought two basilisk boxes, used the platform and gun from them, cut down one to become a medusa. Then converted one of the chimera hulls to a trojan towing vehicle. The other I got spares from the flgs to make an actual chimera. Came out at £55 for two artillery pieces, a chimera and a trojan. All usable in a gw store as it's totally gw products.

Those are nice. I like the paint scheme you went with on them. And they fit 40k just fine, as far as I'm concerned. It's a big galaxy in the setting, and not everybody is going to produce their equipment like the Forge World of Lucius does for the Death Korps.
