Being a very casual player, I often go for the coolest looking models as compared to the most dangerous. Being effective on the battlefield is of course a plus though. So what are your favorite IG units and characters? I personally want to get a load of bullgryns, love the models, plus with mauls they dish out major punishment. A little hard to get across the field, considering you can't charge out of chimeras, but their shear coolness outweighs that. I also love a commissar alteration I did, the new officio prefectus that I got from the get started box that I gave a bolter and power fist (or iron left if I feel like it, although it is on his right hand). I'm thinking about somehow giving him the mask HoC as well.

Is Yarrick a pretty cool dude? I don't know how effective he is in combat, but he definitely looks decently cool.

What do you think of the tanks? I'm disliking the tracks on the taurus, and loving the deathstrike both as a model and as a nuclear explosion of mass death (although I've had mixed results).

Any other cool models I'm missing? Has anyone done anything cool for rough riders?

My favourite IG stuff from a pure cool view.

Baneblade!
Vendetta
Chimera
Sentinels
Gaunts Ghosts (which I don't think have models) so instead Catchans if I have to list something with models.

I haven't seen them at my local store but *internet search later* the GW site has Gaunt's Ghosts for sale. What sort of unit do you run them as? They no longer have rules AFAIK, so command squad and commissar?

I'm actually not a huge fan of sentinels, but I do love me a vendetta and a chimera (which I do already have 4 of), so I might put vendetta on my list next. ATM a baneblade is a bit out of my price range, although I do want a shadowsword because I prefer it for the huge gun.

On moon miranda.

Coolest IG unit?

DKoK Grenadiers. Seriously probably the coolest and most "40k" looking infantry in the game.

Coolest character?

Probably Yarrick.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I liked the bit in the current dex about Wyvern gunners leading jetbikes with airbursting shells. I bought 2 of them, turns out they're just as savage ingame.

Also Baneblades

None of the special characters really blow my hair back, the general character of the guard is what appeals to me.

I don't play IG but have a friend who does. Also I just like the Imperial Guard because of the table top rpg.

If you don't like sentinels, there's an alternate version from Forge World called the Tauros Venator (not to be confused with the Taurox in the AM book). They're basically the most ridiculously overgunned battery-powered dune buggy ever, mounting a twin-linked multilaser or twin-linked lascannon and two hunter-killer missiles;

It has a baby brother, the Tauros, that's a four-wheeler with a heavy flamer or a two-shot grenade launcher and slightly less armour (10/10/10 instead of 11/10/10).

I love them. They're just so hilariously over-gunned for what they are. This is a two-seater, battery-powered dune buggy that has capacitors for a weapon that normally take up the space of three space marines. It's almost as tough as a fully enclosed Rhino APC. And it's designed to be air dropped.

The Imperial Navy stuff is all pretty awesome, but as super-heavies go, the Marauder Destroyer takes the cake. It's a jet-powered Lancaster Bomber with the front ball turret and bombadier's station replaced by a hextuple lascannon array. That's designed to be launched from space ships via catapult.

Imperial Armour Volume 3 second edition. They're part of the Elysian Drop Troop army list, but have a note saying that they're a Fast Attack choice in any Imperial Guard army. Squadrons of 1-3.

Do the Last Chancers still have rules? Or do you just kind of squeeze them into squads where they fit or just use them as a proxy?

I'll definitely consider a squad of 3 next time we do a big FW order

As far as characters go, the guard line up tends to be pretty awesome fluff wise, on the table top not so much,

Strakken is awesome but way over priced.

Yarrik will hold his own quite well in a 50 man blob squad.

Marbo was an auto include in 5th just for the hilarious shenanigans he could get up too. (too bad he's gone forever)

Nork deddog is OK but generally over priced but if he could be taken as a bone head for a squad of ogyrns that might be nice.

Creed sure ain't what he used to be, but he's still fun from time to time.

Pask can be fun when you throw him in a punisher.

Except Harker. He is probably one of the most useless and over costed units in the game. For 5 more points you can take and entire squad of veterans.

Now he's not cool, because he doesn't have his own rules...

The Dracosan Armoured Transport
Comes (stock) with a TW Lascannon
13/12/11 5HP
20 man transport
can take Armoured Ceramite (removes additional D6 because of melta)
Can take a DEMOLISHER CANNON (but makes the transport capacity 10)
Can take a Flare Shield (-1S to all shooting weapons hitting the front arc -2S if its a blast or template weapon)

The best thing?
Its a DEDICATED TRANSPORT FOR ONLY 135 POINTS (base)

It's also only available to Solar Auxillia of the Imperial Army, not to the Guard.

Colonel Schaeffer's Last Chancers. I wish they had updated rules still. I would totally play them. That dune buggy from earlier in the thread is amazing, I would love to have a squadron of them.

Dark Angels- 7500 pts
Tau- 5000pts
Chaos Daemons- 3000/2000 pts
Dark Eldar(allies)- 1500 pts

Solar Auxilia is the top 20% of the Imperial Army
The Imperial Army is the Predecessor to the IG
I Stand corrected

The best guard box by far is colonel schafers last chancers. So many great characters in one cheap box.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Ciaphas Cain and Jurgen

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.
