I'm suprised this hasn't come up already, sorry for the BoLs link, but it's the only place I could find it, seems legit enough though, they've gleamed the info from a job advert:
http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2016/06/games-workshop-planning-warhammer-community-website.html
You will be responsible for the content and delivery of an all-new Warhammer Community website. You will need to be an experienced editor, with outstanding copywriting skills and a deep understanding of Warhammer hobbyists and the types of articles they enjoy reading. You will be able to build great working relationships with key members of the Warhammer community and work with them to develop exciting, consumer led content. Working as part of the wider Communications & Marketing team, you will champion editorial standards and advise on both online and offline content strategy.
We know what makes this job hard is doing all of the above to the exacting standards our customers demand and to the daily deadlines required.”
Looks like they are really going balls deep with the whole community engagement. That can only be a good thing really, such a turn around in the attitude of the company.

Honestly that's about the worst possible thing I can see them doing. It won't last two weeks in the toxic GW Hate Ocean that is the internet.
Instead they should embrace sites like DakkaDakka and social media where there are plenty of tools and help to temper the horrifying storm they're about to have to weather.
It's a shame really, because it could be awesome, but unfortunately no one's going to be able to do anything useful with it due to the sheer amount of trash they're gonna have to wade through to get to useful info.

They have brought that hate upon themselves so they have only themselves to blame for whatever it brings.
All they can do is deal with it and work on fixing the situation. You don't do it by hiding in the ivory tower. This is one more step they can do to lessen the hate.

But then all that GW hate will just as easily manifest itself on sites like warseer and here. It's not like it doesn't already. If. And it's a big IF, they go down the forum routes, they are going to need a strict moderation regime, if done well, it could be a good community, if done badly, it could be the third reich of the Internet. Hopefully they find a good balance lol. Criticism is fine, in fact they need it, and they've shown over the last couple of months that they are going to respond to it. Criticism can get toxic though. A steady hand is needed at the tiller.

Yeah, reaching out to their fanbase can only be a good thing. Blizzard, for example, I believe does a great job of managing their forums and interacting with their fans.

Another thing is though is it going to be forum or more like hobby based article site. Job ad indicates that at least articles seems to be main focus. Not a word on forum.
Though albeit guess comments are at least fairly certain. But full blown forum?

It almost has to be an articles with comments style site. That's really the only way they're gonna be able to lockdown the vitriol all at once by purging the comments and locking it down.
A forum for GW by GW will never work, because no matter what they do to make right, there's far too many people who will hate beyond reason and will take no less than GW's complete destruction.
There's literally nothing GW can do at this point to fix their Internet community relationship and they're making a huge mistake if they open up a forum.

Effective feedback that's reasonably stated and explains why GW should take a certain course of action? Yes.
Posting nonsense that's just whining without any reasoning why they should do something and calling them and their fans offensive names? No.

This will end bad with alot of bans and quick.
Here is a quick summary, it is like listening to a bunch of old people.
1: Things use to cost less.
2: Things are too big now.
3: I dont like change, but dont change things back.
4: Bring back whfb and old games.
5: Where to buy better paints and cheaper models not direct.
6: Why I hate GW
Very helpful indeed

Age of Sigmar and prices. That's all every forum will be filled with.
At least here we don't know if GW is watching or not so we don't yell at them and conform more to our own communities. And that's still toxic at times.

They are watching the guy who has his models stolen had a freebe box sent to him. And unless he sent them a personal email to HQ and avoided the support on the phone they see. Thats why no one on here was picked as a writter. ( I do not understand why I wasnt pick after my 90+ topics of hate towards GW then I sent them a story, posted it on here to read so they could figure out who I was) lol

I think people on bell of lost souls summed it up the best for me.
Poster 1:Wonder what brave soul stood up at the GW meeting and said "We made a mistake putting WD out every week. We need to go back to the way it was." They should name a CSM Champion after that guy...
Poster 2: Well, the way I imagine it, the moment after Kirby left the meeting room for the final time, the whole room erupted into shouting.
"Monthly White dwarf! Not this weekly shallow crap!"
"New hobbyists are priced out! We need intro bundles!"
"Our players think we're cold, distant! Reach out to the community!"
"Points for AoS! Points for AoS! Points for AoS! Points for AoS!"
"Campaigns! Campaigns like the glory days!"
" FAQs, For FAQs Sake! No one knows what the hell is happening any more!"
"Specialist games, for the love of the Warmaster!"
And so on. All that pent up creativity and passion willed out by the removal of a tyrant and a fool.
These post Kirby days are promising.

Effective feedback that's reasonably stated and explains why GW should take a certain course of action? Yes.
Posting nonsense that's just whining without any reasoning why they should do something and calling them and their fans offensive names? No.
I said troll horde, not critics.
And yet time & again I've seen people post reasoned, logical, calmly-stated criticism to which the first replies are almost inevitably variations on "ermagerd stop whining you hater" or "you've openly said you dislike [insert GW product or service here] in the past, so you can never express such an opinion again without giving us the right to claim you're just biased against GW!".
The point of my post was not to claim there are no people out there who genuinely despise GW to an irrational degree, it was to point out that such people are not unique to one "side" in that "debate", nor even to GW fandom, and this idea that GW uniquely in all of geekdom and beyond can never again have a proper internet presence to interact with fans because there's a vast horde of trolls drooling over their keyboards in anticipation at the prospect of being able to gakpost GW officially, it's just farcical(yes, hyperbole, it's a valid rhetorical device, chill). Crikey people, football fandom has to live with a portion of their number starting violent street riots and abusing homeless children, or singing songs about murdering each other, yet football clubs can manage to have a relationship with their fandom while GW, who might have to endure a couple of overly-emotional rants or trollposts, cannot?
