I remember when they were first announced and came out they were super popular. Now aside from the complaint posts about war convocation no longer able to use drop pods, nobody talks about them.
Personally I have alot of hope to see transports in the upcoming IA 14. They really need a rhino type transport.
I am also hopeful for a combined book, but I think they are done with codex till the rumored 8th ed in 2017.

I love Mechanicus as an army, but because it's so small, and there's that one incredibly good build that's easy to use, there's limited potential for discussion on the army.
I would absolutely love a Rhino transport. I'm not pleased that GW took our drop pods out behind the barn and shot them.

I'm aggravated that there was all those rumors saying April May and talking about 2 robots a flyer and a combined book but none of that ever seemed to materialize. Now when we hear about the rumors for the rest of the year ad mech isn't talked about at all. Very disappointing.
I too am hopeful though about the next IA book. I just hope they release t at the event in June. I'm tired of waiting. Lol.

I'm not sure about the hype, but I did pick up a Start Collecting Skitarii Box along with a box of Infiltrators a week ago. The models look great (robes are a pain to line up), and I like their special rules. Kind of annoying to have to build the whole formation of ten as Rangers (that was the card I got), and it is a cash grab to not include enough of each Special Weapon to fill out a squad. If I could do it all over again I would have split up the Rangers/Vanguards to make the most out of Plasma and Sniper choices, but it is a bit late for that. Coming from Orks they are a nice change of pace, and I look forward to trying my hand at some of the finer painting details.
I'm not as into the AD MECH side, but I'm sure the robots will grow on me. I didn't read much on the War Convocation Formation (now I have that WD issue) until after the models were assembled, but I will probably start my Skitarii with the idea to morph them into that formation on down the road. Losing transports hurts an already immobile army, but they still retain some small bonuses in terms of speed to make up for that. Strong or not they seem fun, and they hit most of the high points that I was looking for in an army.

Same here. I had a couple of weird games last year, and decided, to put them on hold, use the Skitarii for 30k as Militia/Adsecularii and wait for the IA-book.
I like to use every game a different list and tactic, so this book just has a bland and boring taste for me. Especially, because I waited over 10 years for an official codex.

There isn't really that much to discuss about AdMech yet. So far they are just too limited as an army.
So I am going with 30k Mechanicum instead. That is the kind of thing we should have gotten for 40k too imo, not two seperate mini-codices.

Pretty much this. 40K AdMech was announced, and there was much rejoicing. And then we start seeing some of the models (still rejoicing, but some headscratching), and some of the rules (still rejoicing), and then....the prices. I went from wanting to do a whole AdMech army, to nothing at all because of the ridiculous pricetag on those walkers. Forgeworld has done a far better job with the Mechanicum than GW has done with the AdMech. Part of the problem may be that GW really hasn't even truly done the AdMech yet. We've got Skitarii and few robots and walkers, but none of the real weirdness that the AdMech should be capable of. While FW has given us Thallax, Battle-automata, tanks, Myrmidons, etc.

I would love to build an army consisting of assassin bugs + those walker thingies and some really nasty artillery. There is no way I could spend that much on the bug horde and there are strangely no real artillery thingies in the army outside knights that I dont really like that much. Automatically Appended Next Post: The range also feels too crisp for me. I would like more skulls and wire upgrade kits. The faction doesn't look at all like the traditional ad mech art.

I think that the issue is summed up that it really isn't a complete army yet. It's not even a combined codex (ad mech and skitarii) and lacks basics like transports, HQs, flyers, etc. All the things that make a 40K army these days.
If they combined the two codexes, added vehicles like transports and artillery, then they might see more prominence.

I think they are in this strange place in the armies. They are not overpowered, but they are not weak by any means. They don't have mega cheesy formations/abilities/etc but again, they are not slouches either.
That and the fact that compared to the other armies, they have relatively few units. Honestly I would love if Cult Mech and Skitarii were 1 book with more stuff on top of that (like adding transports for example, maybe a Tank or Tank-like machine [like an onager])
I love my Skitarii, I even built a squadron of 4 Chimeras just for the Vanguard I have. I don't have enough to fill each of the 4 Chimeras but I'm still trying to get the others.
The models are great, they have good punch and can survive well enough. They are not space marines, but they can survive a lot more than my Guardsmen and can actually threaten most if not anything near them.
I want to get some Cult Mech but obviously GW models are expensive as well...GW models....
That and I want an Ordinantus Minoris....

I'm actually just starting up a Skitarii army as they are not very common in my gaming area and because I love the models. Was able to get a handful of games in yesterday at my FLGS and though I didn't lose any of them I did notice several key weaknesses with the army, in particular the lack of transports. However as mentioned it is rumored that we will get transports or access to them of some kind in the upcoming FW book so we will see.

They are so limited right now, and in general I don't see tons of love for Mechanicus. It's always SPEZZ marines or Imperial Guard players talking about stuff since its more popular.
Admech are like. Yeah robots. Neat. Some tech priest. Now the funny thing is I do like their army and it's one of the few Imperial factions I would consider painting a decade or so down the line when I'm done my three favorites. Assuming something cooler hasn't come along.
Mostly because the Dunecrawler reminds me of the spider tanks from Warplanets/Shadow Raiders, but I doubt anyone here is young enough to remember that show.

I'm hyped for them but mostly just because I got a stupid good deal on an army lot of Skitarii and Cult Mech.
While I agree they seem to be a little limited at the moment (And honestly their books should have just been a single 'dual' book) I personally feel the army is capable, though relies a little on allied help to get them rolling...literally.
Lack of transports is their major flaw right now and even though you can't drop pod with allies anymore (well, once the FAQ becomes final, IF it becomes final) you can still ally in some other transports and use those.
It'll be nice when/if they decide to 'finish' the army. I'm fortunate in my lot I got 5 of the walkers in addition to everything else for a good rate, so I'm not hurting too badly on stuff, though I do need more of the stalkers/infiltrators. In due time.

I remember listening to the "Preferred Enemies Podcast" at the time of Cult Mech release. Sadly that's when the new Eldar rules were leaked.
So during the episode to go over Cult Mech it became a back door review of Eldar. Mostly it was how "this army can't do anything to scatter bikes or wraithknights reliably".

The models are mediocre, worse when put next to FW mechanicum. Theyre limited by a small codex with only 1 or 2 viable builds, especially after the loss of drop pods. I was excited when I heard GW was doing Ad Mech but after reading the codexes and looking at the models, my $1000 for a new army went to Forgeworld.

I honestly think splitting the two codices was a good idea, BUT not with both being full priced like the large codices.
Skitarii are my first army, and the small codex was easily digestible.
I've started to delve into the Nid codex, but that's a tough pie to slice.

I'm pretty sure they've always been 3/5 the price of the regular books: in the US, the regular books are $50 while the Mechanicus books are $33 (so 30% more than other armies).
Regardless, I think that this book division, coupled with the full cost of other minor armies ($50 for Harlequins ) and the high book recycling rate (i.e. Imperial Knights lasted one year) has just soured people from starting up new armies, including Mechanicus.
Plus $50 walkers that are worth less in points than they are dollars isn't helping sell any army.

I love my adech. As soon as they released the war convocation, that IMO made it into a real army, I purchased an entire 1850 at once.
I play it more than my Space Marines/Space wolves, and it dominates my small play group. While War Convocation(without allies) isn't top tier, it is strong.
I can't wait for the unified codex and big stompy robots.

Well, the Nid book is £25, and the two AdMech books cost £40 together, to basically have half the army.
Similiar issue with the Tempestus, I suppose.
I just hope that, given how recent they are, along with the weird power creep etc., that 8th edition will primarily be about updating the older armies to the same standard as the new ones. Any changes more drastic as to warrant a new book, instead of a small PDF supplement-style thing, would seem ridiculous.
And as for their pricing, it's basically as if you spend double what you do for the older armies, just for the same points. Luckily I was able to get started based on what took my fancy.

alot of it has to do with they where the newest army added since.... Tau I think like 8 years ago or more. I use to play alot of fps and stuff when I was a kid and a few online gme here and there now. When somethung new comes out it is all you see for the next week/month then the hype dies down and people go back to the norm.
I remember a couple months ago when I was playing heroes of the storm and they announced the guy with a bear. It was all you seen every game for a week pr 2 then poof. Not sure if anyone still plays him or not it has been a long time since I checked on my account or if the game is even still running.

Hey your now the army with the least kits. Used to be us Tau we had like... 28 ish. Now we have 36, but that includes all the Ethereal variants in there and the Tidewall terrain. Excluding the terrain because it is terrain and not part of a main army we only have 32 unique models and three are Ethereals. Two being the same model with weapon options. Until our update last year we had less then even Dark Eldar. Dark Eldar have 31 models and that is including the slave women model for the transports/decoration.
So the Adeptus Mechanicus (I just group em together since they don't work apart well), then Dark Eldar, and then Tau are the armies with the least amount of models/units.
Edit
There are smaller sub factions like Harlequins, but I just lump them into the Eldar camp because they are clearly made to be allies. Same with the smaller Imperial sub factions they are all meant to ally together to make an army.

At least you have a decent model range.

Not enough wyrd/nightmare fuel.
When people used to imagine mechanicus, it was the most wyrd and disturbing fusion of humans and machines, lots of machines melded to amputated limbs, faces in rictus grins argumented by so much machinery that you can see the bones and organs, flesh cloned and stretched out over machinery, sentient humans enslaved to do the same task over and over, limb and organ modification, humans melded together on a machine, gene modification to make abnormal bone and organ structure, etc.
Instead, what we got was mostly doom-esque servitors on top of tractor wheels, steampunk robots, steampunk soldiers and gimps on walkers. In fact, the gimps are the most nightmare-fuel thing in the range and they're pretty tame. Should remove the gimp suit, and have a screaming human there. Also, they should have Arco-flagellation units.
Its like they dropped the nightmare fuel, and choose the steampunk route.
When I used to think of mechanium, I think of this:
