In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE

So the fluff for my upcoming Deathrattle army is that all the soldiers were oath-bound to guard their master's castle until the end of times, both in life as in death, and they've now been roused back to life by their revived king. To indicate the passage of time, their armour would be rusted, discoloured, etc. and more importantly, covered by patches of moss (as their king's castle lies at the center of a massive forest).

Now the rust and wear I can simulate with GW's technical paints and such, but I'm not sure how I could paint/create some realistic-looking moss. I was thinking of applying thick sand or something to the model and then paint it in various shades of green, or using a mix of dark and light-coloured static grass, but I'm not sure if that would net me the desired result.

Anyone got some advice on how I could best handle this?

Here's a Photoshopped example of what I'm aiming for:

Tactical_Spam: Ezra is fighting reality right now.

War Kitten: Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...

War Kitten: Ezra can steal reality

Kharne the Befriender:Took him seven years but he got it wrangled down

you might actually get better results with actual moss that's been painted with a matte varnish (although I'd test that first and see what the moss looked like in a few weeks)

hobby and stores like Michael's sell fake moss as does a lot of online hobby stores. that could likely work too

What about a light dusting of flock/static grass? I did something similar when weathering my Honoured Imperium statue and it looks pretty moss-like to me.

Yes, dark green flock/turf is the way to go. Example: Woodland Scenics

Actual moss looks like small bushes in that scale, so that would not work as intended.
