By the Emperor, its been forever since I've seen a Space Marine. Haven't touched the new codex either. Well I got a good deal on some at a garage sale and picked em up. I have:

-60 space marines (3 Lascannons, 1 multimelta, 1 Plasma cannon, 5 flamers, 1 plasma gun, ~49 bolters).
-Dreadnought (all options available)
-Drop Pod
-Rhino/razorback

So, my question to you is this: What army would best work with this so I don't have to add too much?
I am not opposed to doing conversions, such as: Turning tac marines into sternguard, getting some special and/or heavy weapons for them, making dreadnought ironclad, etc.

Edit: as for special characters: 2 jump chaplains, 2 chapter masters, Calgar.

Thanks in advance!

Resin Printer (minaitures) is a 4K printer with one of the largest build volumes available for a resin printer (192mm x 120mm x 245mm) with an amazing .01mm resolution! This professional printer is one of the best resin printers on the market!

FDM Printer (terrain) also has one of the largest build volumes available for an FDM printer (400mm x 400mm x 450mm) and has an amazing ,05mm build accuracy.

If you buy any SM/BA/DA/SW HQ you've got yourself a legal army. That's really all I can say.

Just edited my original post to include the 5 HQs I have already. Thank you.

The best part of a gladius already built sans the transports. Ultras or Fists would be my suggestion, though I guess you could make Scars work too with Khan.

You can't have Calgar in a non-ultras army now days though, so if you want to use him (or any other specifically named character), you'll have to play the chapter they come from (ie can only use Vulkan in a Sallies army, can only use Lysander in a Fists army etc).

Well youve got a triple las devastator squad there, and a twin plasma (plasma cannon, plasma gun) tac squad. The tactical squad would have to go in the rhino for me to allow he plas cannon to fire at full bs from he hatch. I'd put the dreadn in the drop pod and have the powerfist/hflamer/assaukt cannon options on it to get in close, but youve also got the option to make a 10 man assautl squad and drop pod them on to your enemy's back field objective and have the two flamers in there to start a bbq.
The rest of the marines can go into more tactical squads. Put the flamers in there if you like but i actually rarelt use speci or heavy weapons in those squads.
Either way you're going to need more transports,

Just did some research on that. An ultramarines gladius with Calgar could potentially have 4 tac doctrine uses and 2 of each of the other. Is that correct?

Sounds like I need to invest in either rhino/razors or drop pods!

Yep, thats exactly how I've seen it played and with so many tactical marines in there it becomes a nightmare to face with 90% of the army rerolling every turn.

That will definitely require you to get more transports though.

Another thing to consider though would be a stormraven, it can bring in your dread and a full squad exactly where you need them. On top of that im pretty sure calgar lets you reroll reserve rolls.

Id also contemplate buying calgar a L/R crusader with honour guard to get him in to a fight fairly safely. I used to run calgar attached to a 10 man assault terminator unit from deep strike but interceptor is now a thing.

Turns out no rerolls for reserves as far as i can tell, sorry

Maybe go Imperial Fists? Without buying anything new I would say that looking into converting x10 marines into Sternguard could be good in that setup, since regular bolters get the special ammo without having to pay for upgrades. This makes things a lot more flexible, so you can field a x10 man squad, or two x05 man squads with the Imperial Fists Doctrines for rerolls.

I would stick to CAD's made up from some of the following squad lists, just to get into the swing of things before spending a lot of money on more models. Your main squads are the Tac squad in the Drop Pod for killing elite troops or tanks, the Tac Squad in the Rhino with Plasma weapons for midfield control, the 10 man Sternguard squad who should also probably get a Rhino to support the Plasma Squad, the Dreadnought for heavy weapons support and anti-air, and the Dev squad for anti air and anti-armor thanks to tank hunter.

The extra 5 man flamer squads are mainly just small anti horde units if you need to spend more points on a larger force. This should use all of your models aside from your independent characters.

SQUAD LIST:

Dreadnought w/Missile Launcher and Twin-Linked Lascannon, with Imperial Fists or a successor chapter you'd get tank hunters special rule here, and with the Devastator squad below.

Devastator Squad #01 (10 Man):

x06 Marines w/Bolters
x03 Marines w/Lascannons
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter

Sternguard Squad (Converted, 10 Man):

x09 Marines w/Bolters
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter

Tactical Squad #01 (10 Man in a Rhino):

x07 Marines w/Bolters
x01 Marine w/Plasmagun
x01 Marine w/Plasma Cannon
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter
x02 Rhino w/Dozer Blade

Tactical Squad #02 (10 Man in a Drop Pod):

x07 Marines w/Bolters
x01 Marine w/Flamer
x01 Marine w/Multimelta
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter
x01 Drop Pod w/Deathwind Missile Launcher

Tactical Squad #03 (5 Man):

x03 Marines w/Bolters
x01 Marine w/Flamer
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter

Tactical Squad #04 (5 Man):

x05 Marines w/Bolters
x01 Marine w/Flamer
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter

Tactical Squad #05 (5 Man):

x03 Marines w/Bolters
x01 Marine w/Flamer
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter

Tactical Squad #06 (5 Man):

x03 Marines w/Bolters
x01 Marine w/Flamer
x01 Sergeant w/Bolter

Go Black Templars and take plasma+heavy weapon 5 man crusader squads. A pack of plasma guns directly from GW or Ebay and you're golden.

BT Dreads are no-where near as resilient as Iron Hand dreads, but they do get +d3 for sweeping advance, which is a big deal against non marines.

Calgar isn't worth building an army around.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.
