So I'm a new AOS player and am just rounding off my Skaven army and looking on to new things.
I've always been a bit elf-obsessed and I'd love to collect a High Elf(?Aelf) army. Whilst I appreciate I could source some OOP High Elves and use them under the current rule set I'd prefer to stick to in-production fsctions.
GW's current Aelf factions seem pretty much in-fieldable at the moment with most having less than a handful of models and perhaps not even a battleline/hero unit.
I've seen people claim these factions will be expanded upon, is anyone aware of any such plans in the works? I'd love to hear other people's experiences of using these factions either together or independently!

Elves or Aelves as they are called now are not being squatted but they certainly are changes from fantasy. In fluff terms no one knows what is going on with the realms of light and shadow (where high elves and dark elves live respectively) but they have repelled chaos time and again. Basically this sets up new sub-factions for each race (think fyreslayers compared to dispossessed) for GW to make and release sometime in the future. This, for now, you can play with the scattered remnant style elves or wait until the shiny new faction Aelves come out at some point in the future.

The Mistweaver from Silver tower is part of the shadow aelfs, which will come out at some point. That story arc will include the return of slaanesh for sure as its highly involved. So not getting squatted, just a story arc that will come to pass at some point.

Presuming the Pheonicum survives the campaign, I guess the Pheonix Guard will have their own city - so perhaps they will get expanded upon. I don't think so far we've really seen an old world faction get expanded upon though - everything has instead been new - they could be the first however.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I'f a am not in big mistake, High Elves are called Sylvaneth now. The Everqueen is riding a giant beetle now. You have to deal with it...

No. Sylvaneth are not High Elves. The Sylvaneth are basically the old Wood Elf Dryads and Treemen with a few new units.

I get that the High Elves faction is a dead one that won't be expanded upon, what I'm referring to are the 'new' factions that have sprung from the remnants of High Elves (and are still stocked by GW). I think what I can gather from this is not many people are using them/no one has heard of new releases

Oh yes, that's what I meant. Out of all the "re-imagined" factions not one has yet to be expanded upon with new miniatures... Well, except for the Sylvaneth come to think of it. If I had to put money on a new Aelf faction being fleshed out in the future in a similar way it would be the Pheonix Temple as they will have their own city soon in the lore, BUT - I don't imagine anything coming from that in the foreseeable future, I just think it was such an odd choice for the campaign there has got to be something more to it. Other than that I don't think any of the new Aelf factions are going to incorporate existing models, in the same way the Fyreslayers didn't incorporate any of the existing Dwarf range. I think the elves from the realm of shadow will be nothing like what we have seen before (well, they'll be like the Aelfs from Silver Tower).

I also think come each year when the grand alliance books get rereleased there will be another cull of models each time to make sure the range doesn't get too congested. I would imagine some of these new smaller factions don't last that long. These are all just personal guesses and hunches though.

I think Bottle's assessment is sound. I think looking to the model releases during the 8th edition book releases and the End Times as a signal of the direction the new identities will go.

While only the Sylvaneth have gotten new kits out of the carried-over factions several have gotten battletome releases with buckets of new content for them using the existing kits (Flesh-Eaters, Bonesplittaz, and now Beastclaw Hunters).

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I think this is the case GW would not give them their own city for no reason. I suspect tyrion might blow the war horn soon for them to come home, since the all-gates book introduced the realm of light and shadow and it noted chaos forces went there and never returned.
