For an Anointed riding a phoenix do I just add the individual point costs together? Thanks in advance

Hey, that's pretty good. So unless you're doing a battalion formation, you may's well always have the Anointed.

Hey there, I'm not sure this is correct otherwise why wouldn't you take a Phoenix with an Anointed and why would the anointed get a separate points cost?

If you're right then that's awesome...

How would you buy an Anointed on foot without a points cost?

There is only one cost for the phoenix. The phoenix can have an annointed or you can choose not to. That is the correct answer. There is only one cost period. You choose to put the rider on or leave him off.

Why would you ever not do this? You wouldn't.

The annointed has a separate point cost for it on foot.

Why would you ever not do this? The best reason is if you have a model assembled and painted without the rider, value WYSYWIG and don't feel like changing it.

It's the same for a lot of things, like Wizards riding in Hurricanums. All these stingy 8th edition players be regretting not adding all the bells and whistles on every unit now lol.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Or they already have the Caradryan model (who's now an Anointed) and have a free Hero slot if using the Matched Play rules.

Well that's amazing! It's like having a free 80 points (or a free 100 points if I use Caradryan!)

Sorry if I doubted what you said,
It just seemed too good to be true!

I use the Flamespyre Phoenix Warscroll and I've beaten everything I've come up against in pitched battles. With the 100 points I save on Caradryan I might as well throw a Mage onto the list!

I`m not sure if Caradryan can be included (on phoenix) in matched games.

Caradryan lacks the 'Phoenix Temple' keyword, however his model is used as the Anointed on foot.

I had an argue with one of my oponent about Caradryan on Phoenix. As for me it cannot be used in matched play because there is no point value for him in GH (Caradryan on Phoenix). He is also named character/hero so even if he has "anointed" keyword he should also have point value other than ordinary Anointed on Phoenix.

Am I right?

Actually its more than 80 free points because in addition to the value of the Annointed you have the value of the Annointed getting flying movement and a chance to revive, plus the benefit of the phoenix having a 4+ extra save.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

The real reason you can't use Caradryan on Phoenix anymore is because the option no longer exists on the Frostheart Phoenix warscroll.

If the option still existed, GW would've pointed it.

It's the same reason you can take Volkmar the Grim on foot, but you can't use him on his War Altar anymore (option doesn't exist in the updated warscroll).

The points assume you are using the latest warscrolls.

The reason Volkmar doesn't have the devoted of sigmar rule still eludes me

There is a reason to not take an Anointed on the Phoenix: you only have so many leader spots in your list. Assuming you're already maxed out on leaders, but still have points left over, you can still add in a Phoenix alone. Not a very big reason.

Bingo. Hypothetically some scenarios may come to exist (if they don't already!) that revolve around scoring by killing Heroes - ala the scenario where only Heroes can score - in which case you may find yourself regretting upgrading that Phoenix in your TAC list ... but particularly with artifacts and command traits (and the objective scenario above), it seems like only a good idea

Since you will always have more 'Hero' slots than 'Behemoth' slots that will never happen in Matched Play in an army with the 'Phoenix Temple' allegiance outside of house rules.

This was something our gaming group noticed recently and it is some of the cheesiest BS in all of sigmar for us right now. 2 pheonixes with anointeds cast 1 spell a turn gives them a 3+ save with a 4+ FNP that also works against mortal wounds. Throw in 1 more caster(another pheonix) and you're looking at permanent 2+ 4++ 16 inch move 12(?) wound monstrosities
