Hey all I have no idea what I should put on my Tac Sergeant... I am thinking a plasma pistol and a power fist with AA but not so sure.

Cheers..

I have 4 Tac Squads and therefore 4 Sarges.

2 of my Sarges have PF, bolter, and AA.

The other 2 are meant to be cheaper options, and I take them stock with only a Melta Bomb added on (and regular Power Armor).

I'm running 60 marines in three squads of 20 for my Sons of Horus. Footslogging on a dense city board so giving everyone an extra CCW for that extra attack (Three attacks on the charge per marine!) The PF will be good for Contemptors as everyone always has a few of those running around (I have two ) along with some melta bombs as krak grenades won't even touch it.

Yeah, I have 2 x 20 man squads, and these all have the CCW added, as well as the Sarge with AA and PF. Word Bearers have a rule called Dark CHanneling which can be used to give Tac Squads a random benefit, but each benefit is mostly CC related (Zealot, +1 Strength, andf Daemon are the possible results of Dark Channeling) , so I give these 20 man blobs the added CCW so they can max out the Dark Channeling CC benefit (if that made any sense).

At the same time, its nice to have a couple bare-bones 10 man squads if you ever just need to meet your Troops requirement and don't want to spend alot of points to do so. So my cheap "regular PA w/ Meltabomb" Sarges are leading the cheap 10 man squads, which don't get the added CCW or Dark Channeling.

I run mine with artificer armor, bolter and ravens talons (I play raven guard). I also have 15 marines in the squad including the sgt along with an apothecary.

As Emperor's Children, I run them with Artificer Armor and Phoenix Spear, otherwise I would go cheaper with just a power axe or something. I generally find it a waste to give them any sort of gun upgrade, as the rest of the squad is all bolters anyway.

Power fist and power dagger for the extra attack.

But for non-AL lists I'd probably stick to a power weapon, and maybe melta bombs.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

As a Blood Angels and Emperor's Children player, initiative attacks are vital to my survival - to that end I usually use power swords or Pheonix Spears for EC. Melta Bombs are a great and cheap Anti-Everything option if you fear you'll be charged by a dreadnought or something. I don't generally give them both a close combat and ranged upgrade as that gets expensive. Artificer Armour is not vital, but great if there are points to spend.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Melta bomb and art armor. I love my tac squads but do not see the need to bump them up further. If playing AL I would add a power dagger I think just because. Sometimes depending on what models I use elsewhere I have a chain blade on a NL sergeant or two.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

For my Emperors Children they get a phoenix spear and for my Iron Warriors and Fists they get a pf.

I'll be putting Power Axes and Fists with AA for my Space Wolves. Most people run AA locally so a fist or axe will help in Sergeant vs Sergeant challenges.

For my DG - arti armor and scythe; rad grenades if i'm using the Reaping. Going to kit two out with PFs just for versatility against multiwound T4s and light vehicle popping (to save points on melta bombs)

Two schools of thought:

Max 'em out because these are the work horses of your list. 20 models, Sarge with all the extra kit. The rest of the squad almost becomes ablative armor and extra wounds for your one "star" model to get into close combat or close enough to use his awesome wargear. The focus of this list is the infantry Legion Tactical Squads. Everything else is taken to somehow support the infantry to win the game.

Second school of thought: Keep 'em "Plain Jane" with no upgrades as this just takes away points from the other units in your army that do the work of the list. Take a couple of these squads in 10 model size, no upgrades, and park 'em on objectives or behind a bulwark or whatever. The focus of your list is somewhere else, and these guys are taken because you have to take them.

For example, I have a unit of Reavers with Chain axes and Phobus Pattern Bolters in MK IV "Sons of Horus" variant armor. They look fantastic! And that's the only reason they are in my list, to look fantastic. All my opponents zero in and eliminate the unit like it's some kid of OP Unit that can single handily win the game for me. Nope. They are pretty much a distraction for my opponent to focus all his efforts on in the early game and make him feel better about himself until my hammer units- Reavers in Anvilus Pattern Dreadclaw Dop Pods and full unit of Justarian Terminators arrive on the table.

Every unit should have a purpose and a function, even if it's just to fill a FO slot or look pretty on the table- Rule of Kewl! When making your list, identify what you want this unit to do, and equip it for that job.

I play RG and I usually kit them out pretty heavy for CC. I have 2 that are artificer, melta bomb and one is power sword, the other a claw. I then have a veteran squad sarge with AA, fist and combi-weapon (though that will go away...waste of 10 points)

I like @tamwulf's analysis. Good stuff. +1

I give them a melta bomb, a combi plasma gun and AA. Tactical Sergeants are there to absorb wounds and provide a round of plasma support fire. Giving them melee weapons seems like a waste considering their mediocre combat stats.

I tend to keep them as utilitarian as possible:

AA
P. Fist
bolter
Melta bomb (occasionally)
rad Grenade (when running the reaping)

I normally don't bother with special pistols as I think most of them are to expensive, but I still want him to be able to be a threat in CC vs. other sergeants or the occasional centurion.

I typically run with 2 squads. One will have Art Armor, Plasma Pistol, and a Calibanite Sword (since i'm a DA player).

The other will have Art Armor, Calibanite Sword, and a Combi-Melta.

Art armor is always a must though. Need a wound tanker. The other day I had an orbital bombardment inflict 22 wounds on my tac squad, and only lost 5 models because of Art armor.
