I am organizing a 30k Apocalypse event at my local store in a few weeks and I need to know what the latest rules set for apoc games is. Are there rules for 30k apoc?

"I was never a Son of Horus. I was and remain a Luna Wolf. A proud son of Cthonia, a loyal servant of the Emperor."

Recasts are like Fight Cub. No one talks about it, but more people do it then you realize.

None. The current Apocalypse expansion dates back to 6th before 30k started.

The current Apocalypse rules are also showing their age; they were written before formations or vehicle squadrons were present in the core rules, so their formations tend to be bizarre or redundant in light of the main game. I'd recommend trying the Apocalypse mission rules with no formations and seeing what happens.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Agreed. The apocalypse scenario rules - strategic objectives, strategic assets, scoring at pre-planned breaks, playing to time not turn number, and spending 'victory points' to bring back casualty units - are sound and a good game system for massive games.

The formations themselves are less important - 30k tolerates big games well - just permit each player an Age Of Darkness or variant detachment (of whatever size).

I'll third what they both said. Use the current scenarios rules to inspire your own game.

Also, try to give the game a theme. Everyone enjoys blasting models off of the table for the day, but players will get more invested (and have more fun) if there is a reason behind the battle. Even if its just a page or two long description of the planet and why the legions are fighting there, people will appreciate it.

We just ran a 20K vs 19K + fortress game this past weekend. It went pretty well. Most players maxed out at 4K points and were restricted to 1 force org, which made for some interesting list building. We were playing on a 6 x 10" primary board with a 4 x 4 Zone Mortalis secondary board. We had a defined mission ... to kill the enemy warlord. The ZM board connected to bunker entrances on each side of the board and had a generator that controlled the shield over the fortress.

I got into a group the generally enforces a rule of only running painted figures. It's key for the immersion as is the terrain. We've been playing large and small games using the campaign rules from the HH books, which has been very cool. Good luck in your game.

I should mention that our table was 6 x 10' with a 36" no man's land. I think that was pretty important because the first turn didn't result in half the units being taken off and provide enough space for deep striking and outflanking units to maneuver. The initial deployment looks crowded, but as the Traitors moved up, there was a good amount of space for units to move around. I think we saw action on all parts of the board, which is what we wanted.

Did your game happen and if so, how did it go? would love to see pics and understand the missions.

The game did go off and was run extremely well. It turned out to be an arrow victory for the Traitors at 21-19 victory points and came down to Lorgar holding out against Alpharius at the very end. The Alpha Legion were up to their old tricks by fighting for the Loyalist side for some reason only they were aware of. (And balancing the sides to make sure we all had fun

Trying to upload from my phone, pictures are acting funny. Hopefully this works.

Not all painted but those that were were beautiful. The Thousand Sons and their Warlord friend were stunning.

Nice. That really gives a good perspective regarding how big the warlord really is.

Nice pictures. That game looks awesome. If you have the pictures and the time, I'm sure a lot of HH fans (like myself) would appreciate a good battle report.

Unfortunately I don't have pictures from once the battle got moving. I didn't think to do a report as it was my first mega battle in years and I was more concerned with why my stuff was dying horribly.

Holy Terra.

Yeah, i played a 30 mega-battle where everone got to bring 2000 points, and i ended up with Maun and two of my Volkites left after turn 2 (we played 12 turns...) although i did still have a drop pod with my Mor Deythan left (they killed that anoying Zardu Layak guy, from the Word Bearers) befor getting ImperialKnight-ed. Maun made it to the end, helped take down a few tanks (his stratos-vox is awesome) but it made me sad to see the XIX legion reduced to only its commander while one of my "allies" (imperial fists ) had his intire army, minus one predator and half a breacher squad, still intact.
