Hey, I've just moved to Nottingham and as a result I don't have my usual group of friends to play against. Is there many groups in the city that you can just roll up to with an army and stand a good chance to play?

If you are willing to head to warhammer world for games, take a look at this thread. If you post there it's easy to get a game sorted.

For gaming groups in the city centre, I believe the local gamesworkshop (Friar lane) holds gaming nights.

I was thinking that there's probably enough of us on here to sort out some regular gaming nights as well as the ocassional meetups we organise through the aforementioned thread. In the next month or so Ill be able to start doing wednesday nights at whw on a regular basis. We'd pretty much have the hall to our selves until 10pm. It seems to me a shame that the global HQ of the hobby doesn't have a regular group. Who'd be up for that?

Awesome . Reason I'm thinking wednesday nights is because its the only night in the week its open late enough after work to have a decent game and the weekends are often way too busy to organise anything sensible.

I won't be a hugely regular attender, but it would be good to have the option when I can get up there. Also that's a great name for the group!

I think a facebook group is your best bet, especially seeing whatsapp is fine, but users tend to ignore large group chats especially when it's constantly going off.

I'll sort out a facebook group and link it in here or would people prefer if I pm it?

I was in whw last night and it was the busiest Ive ever seen it on a wednesday. But there were still tables available despite quite a lot being booked. I imagine it was a one off but once we get set up and numbers sorted I could start booking a couple tables regularly.

I think posting here would be fine, gets the word out more.

To be honest I don't want to mix my Facebook and Dakka. I trust those of you I've met, but I don't like the greater population finding me.
And I know Remmick has Facebook but only uses the messenger.

A schedule here and maybe a rename or new topic would be less exclusionary.

I think limiting to dakka might be a little too limiting. I know from when I was getting back into the hobby it was painful trying to find a group of people to play against. I feel lucky to have found dakka and the thread on here.

It seems more exclusionary not to put it out in a more accessible place like facebook but I do understand the hang ups people might have with advertising it to their facebook feed.

I can always create a thread here and use facebook. If you dont want to join the facebook group you can still get updates then.

It's not being worried about people I know seeing I'm in a group, it's that I don't necessarily want people who simply google up Dakka then click on a facebook group, to be able to access my work, social life and friends.
Or if I make a post someone dislikes on Dakka, someone being able to find me on Facebook.

That's fair enough, Ive figured that is a risk when mentioning names on here before now and then I realised my online footprint is probably big enough for a randomer to find me if they really wanted to anyways.

Also as far as I know you can hide any private details about your work and social life from people who aren't friends with you on facebook and all they'd have access to is your profile picture. Also, the group is set up so that you have to be a member to view its content and membership has to be approved first.

But anyways, if you're not comfortable with it then that's ok . Ill be cross posting information onto here too.

Can't you join groups and also set up your privacy setting so only friends can get any of your details?

I remember after/during uni it was fairly common practice to play your profile on private.

You can, but Facebook's fluctuating and opaque privacy settings are not something I keep up with often enough to feel comfortable depending on them.
Also things like clicking profile photos still allows access to an account's image history. It's flawed.
