How do you pronounce Leman Russ? I thought it was LEE man Russ. When I herd the Genestealer Cult video on WH TV it sounded like Lemon Russ.

So what is the proper pronounciation? I know we have Tear a nids and shimera's but this Lemon Russ just mindboggles me now.

*edit*

Let's make this a pronunciation thread now since we haven't had one in a while and it seems people are having fun with it since the original question is sort of answered. Would love to still hear how people pronounce it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I've always said Lee-Mon Russ.

The "Mon" is like Jamaican for "man."

So basically he's Lemon Russ to you?

I don't care for that one bit!

Lea-Man

Now as for Russ

It's either
Russ like rustle

or Scandinavian/ germanic pronunciation would be - Ruus or Reus or Roos

The tank or the primarch?

The tank I’ve always pronounced "Lee-Man".

The Primarch is “Bow-wow, Bark, Woof woof”.

I've heard it as Rob-oot Gui-le-man sorta pseudo french I guess. It sounds pretty good to me, so I use it.

I bet there is an Audio Drama that discloses that one - I think of it as Ro-boot Gui-le-man like others here.

I know the Leman Russ Tank Crew in DOW2 call the tank a Lee-man Russ

Yeah in the GSC developer video he pronounces it Le'man Russ which makes it sound french.

In all honesty imagine how funny it would be if we imagined Space Wolves with gruff and/or Scandinavian accents.... when in reality they actually had extremely strong french accents?

Either way Leman Russ should be pronounced LeeMan (Or Leemun) Russ.

But beyond that.

Lee-man Russ with russ pronounced similar to the rus in "rust"

What more irritates me are people at my FLGS who pronounce Chimera with a Ch like from Chinook. Its not pronounced like that!!! In Chimera the CH is pronounced with a K sound

Its difficult to explain, beyond "k-imera" like the ki in "Kite"

Us Midlanders really do struggle to talk without sounding funny to everyone else - I sometimes talk more like a Northerner or even use Americanisms so my accent doesn't come off as one of a snob

'Murica! (again)

Leman ryhmes with Neiman as in Neiman Marcus stores. Russ like first syllable of rusty. That's for me anyway, and I take pronunciation from audio books/dramas or interviews (though those sometimes change like Abaddon

I skip the argument and abbreviate it 'Russ', nobody ever goes after me for mispronouncing that bit.

My job involves tech support in the UK. It's amazing to me how quickly I started identifying regional accents. Makes me wonder if non-Americans can tell the difference in our regional accents.
