Hey dakkaheads, i was on here a couple months ago and some people were talking about a couple sites where you could get some cheap models from like revolutionary war/ Napoleonic wars/samurai with matchlocks/even ww2 that were standard gw-ish size. I really wanted to make a old school french old guard IG army and it was a lot cheaper. anyone know a couple good sites to get these type of models, hopefully i'll hear the name of the site im thinking of or find a new good one.

P,S. if you could point me to any good female/female elf heads that would be awesome too
Thanks ya'll

Unfortunately, the company was hacked up and the moulds are now owned by DreamForge Games (and some went to Warlord), with a slight rise in price (but the WW2 models are excellent quality, IMO - far better than Warlord's offerings). Besides WW2, WargamesFactory also had Revolutionary War/Samuria & Ashigaru w/ Matchlocks and even some fantasy skeletons and Apocalypse Survivors models, now split between the two companies above.

I believe Plastic Soldier Company also makes 28mm WW2 figures, and I've heard the Perry brothers make some excellent minis.

It never ends well

Ah that's a shame, I always wanted a D Day themed Imperial Guard army from them

In the uk you can get 100 28mm 20th century style soldiers for one pound. This includes heavy machine guns, rocket launchers and so on.

Okay, they are cheap toy armymen so not great details, but if all you care about is something rough and cheap then these might do.

Perhaps you can find something similar in American budget stores?

Warlord Games make all kinds of historical figures from ancients, to middle ages, to Napoleonic's, to WW2.
Try them.

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

Also have a look at the Perry's plastic boxes, nice detail level and fantastic price (40 models 20 pounds usually).

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

Biggest problem with most historical 28mm minis is that they look small next to GW's heroic 28mm scale. Had originally planned to use historical sources for minis to build a pretorian guard army, but every option I tried looked more like 25mm minis on the table next to any GW stuff.

Wargames factory had a boxed set of Greatcoat troopers which were sci fi themed and also made bigger than their other figure sets to look OK next to GW minis as they were designed specifically to be 40k guard replacement.s

Oh wow thanks guys! Perry miniatures was the one they mention months ago. ill definitely have to do a cheap preview buy to check the size. so the warlordgames historic are a bit small besides the scifi ones? anyone know how the perry miniatures size up to 40k ig? im not too worried about a bit smaller, besides the fact most of our groups terrain is like space marine size so they'll be eyes over lol but not too big deal

While we're talking about Wargames Factory, what ever happened to these models? I couldn't find them on Warlord or Dream Forge. I have an army of them but haven't touched them in a while.

I've got a WHFB Nipponese army built out of Perry pewter models, they're a bit smaller but not by a lot.
