Interesting they seem to have ported Skyrim over to it!
The Mariokart game as usual looks darn fun.

The Switch has an enormous amount of third party support, quite unprecedented for Nintendo. Of note to me is From Soft, Dark Souls/Bloodborne on the Switch?

Not keen on the name but that is par for the course for Nintendo systems as of late, but the system looks fun. I know I'll be pre-ordering it.

To be honest... I'm seeing it tanking so bad. And the third party support tells nothing and might end up like the Wii U... announced at first, but dropped in a heartbeat.
I liked Nintendo in the past... I'm just not buying something that doesn't know wether it's a console or a handheld.
On top of that... the Nintendo games in the trailer are just games for the Wii U... Mario Kart, Splatoon, etc. They didn't show anything... appart from how it sort of functions... Can't imagine just how fast that thing will need to be recharged.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

I'm reserving most of my judgement until more info comes out for it but the design looks alright. My main concern is that the slide-in, slide-out controllers don't look particularly comfortable or ergonomic to use and that you're likely to just end up using pro-controllers the majority of the time rather than the gimmicky aspect of the switch.

I think the 3 key questions are:
price
hardware specs
upcoming supported titles

I think it looks cool, but I personally would never take the handheld with me anywhere ever, let alone want to play for a long time on that teeny screen. I'm used to playing on a big screen now and anything small seems sucky to me. But I can see the value for folks that are into that. I've always liked Nintendo's games / IPs so I'll keep an eye on it

It's got so much support because it has Nvidia support. It helps its basically a Nintendo tablet. To see something similar see the Razor Edge. They then made it more portable.
So it's basically the perfect device to take out on the go.
Also... Monster Hunter on the Switch is going to be so sweet and I hope they make one. There are some solid rumors that Nintendo (Game Freak) is also making a Pokemon game for the Switch. Not to mention it's far stronger than the Wii U and will be the definitive console to play the new Zelda on.
I'm fairly certain I'll be preordering one once I see the launch lineup and launch year of games. I'll sell off my PS3 and WiiU and just have this to supplement my PC since this doubles as both a home console and a portable and I love my 3DS.
It has 10 million views in a day and in the years since the Wii U E3 unveiling trailer it only has 11 million. Suffice to say this looks to be magnitudes more popular than the poor Wii U.

Ive read rumors where they plan on combining their prtable and home lines into this. Now since they themselves habnt said that i wont take it as gospel but i read that in the past month along with other rumors that turned out to be true. And pokemon people did actually say they will be making a for real pokemon series game on the switch which is making me lean towards that rumor being true at least eventually.
Like i said, trying to keep my excitement to a minimum but its hard because honestly im a huge fan of Nintendo

If this was to be a success for nintendo then no doubt they'd make a "home only" version, which would be without a mini screen at a cheaper price. That's what I would go for.

That wouldnt work because the game slot is IN the mini screen. Youd have to look at this like its your new 3ds AND Nintendo console in one easier to swallow price........just dont remove the screen and youve got what youre talking about

It looks like a cross between the Razer Edge and what the Nvidia Shield was supposed to be.

Yeah, it does come off like a weird hybrid of the two. I've heard that it doesn't support 3DS and Wii U physical copies of the game which isn't good to hear since Nintendo was one of the few companies that seemed to promote backwards compatibility, meaning like Xbox/PlayStation they're going to have to bank on drawing in people from their launch games or at the very least early cycle games. If that's the case, then it probably explains why there's been so many droughts for the Wii U if they've been saving all the games for the launch of the Switch.

It doesn't go directly into the screen, it's goes behind it into a cartridge slot, that's soldered onto a motherboard, that feeds information to various other parts (cpu, gpu, ram, etc) and then onto a LCD display via a ribbon cable most likely.
So it could be as simple as leaving the screen out of production and replacing it with a solid plastic casing. It makes the Switch cheaper for those of us who does really care for gaming on the go (like myself) outside of the odd mobile game at the train station or post office queue

I love how Nintendo constantly tries to innovate with its releases. Think this is a wonderful idea, really useful way of playing (travel about a bit so can personally see myself using the TV/portable switch out quite a lot).
curran12 wrote:The Switch has an enormous amount of third party support, quite unprecedented for Nintendo.
I think this is key. Ninendo (even going back to the 8-bit) always seemed reticent about fully engaging with third party support. It's arguable that at least two of their consoles (the N64 and Wii U) didn't sell as well as they could have because of this. If Nintendo have opened this to more support it's really, really going to help.
The Grumpy Eldar wrote: Can't imagine just how fast that thing will need to be recharged.
The Li-po capacity and fast charging technology has come on quite a lot in the past year or so. With the new HTC 10 you can get an 80% charge in less than an hour (assume new Galaxy and iPhone are similar?) and the battery life is over 1.5 days of hard use. Obviously this won't translate to that for a larger screen and power hungry processor and graphics on this device but I don't think we're going to get quite back to Atari Lynx levels of battery life

I feel like Nintendo peered into my dreams and made exactly what I wanted. I have limited time at home, but long commutes and long lunch breaks. When I am at home I am always choosing between 'the hobby' and video games.
If I can get my gaming done at work, that leaves more time for painting at home.
The vita was a great piece of tech, but it was hampered by its lack of buttons, mini sticks and the fact that both unity and unreal ran very poorly on it.
The switch has a full control scheme with exactly the same buttons as an xbox controller.
They prominently list both unreal and unity as partners and with nvidia doing the tech it should be well optimised to run those engines.
I wont being using the little joycons seperately, but for long journeys with the kids they look perfect.
Colour me very very excited

Um, they were showing a brand new Mario game in the trailer. What are you talking about?

No interest in this here? Latest rumours are £200 or £250 with more storage and splatoon pack in. Mario switch and Skyrim at launch (with ps4 style mods). Mario kart 8 with new tracks and battle mode. New version of smash coming too. Zelda not in March.
