Hi guys,

I just purchased about 200 Death Korp of Krieg models from forgeworld including command squads for company as well as platoon, DKOK comissars, heavy weapon teams and special weapons for platoons. I also bought 2 manticores, 3 chimeras, 2 medusa artillery carriages, and 5 wyversn. Basically going for big platoons with artillery to back them up.

This got me thinking, from a militarized perspective, what's your favorite regiment, and why? I like the Death Korp of Krieg, because I love the great coats and the WW1 feel to them. What do you guys like and what do you play?

Mordian Iron guard.
Love their aesthetic, home world fluff and general hardness (when a bunch of well drilled humans can hold back a daemonic city incursion, you know the right stuff is there).
Other IG regiments do have some cool fluff too, notably Cadians, DK and Valhallans.

Mind you, they're all pretty cool - can't really fault any of them

Im a big fan of both Death Korps and Steel Legion. Course I cannot afford Death Korps, but I do happen to have a few hundred old Steel Legion (and some knock off ones, check my gallery). I have always enjoyed both their aesthetic and their backstories. The greatcoats mesh well with the WWI era style tanks. Their lore is pretty grimdark all around being from toxic planets and death looming at all times where Krieg kills their own and Armageddon lets the Orks weed out their weak. The only difference is one is stylish and full of artillery, the other is more of a working mans mechanized style.

I also have a soft spot for Cadia. Even though they are the baseline guardsman and can come off as "meh" they do happen to have that hard core military appeal, professional soldiers through and through and tough and nails.

My own, obviously! But out of the official ones? It's so hard to pick...

Top three would probably be the Death Korps, the Elysian Drop Troopers (all, what, two platoons left after they get slaughtered in every other Forge World book), and the Savlar Chem-Dogs. Nothing says dehumanizing grimdark Imperium like Krieg, the Elysians are quintessential future drop troops and I have a soft spot for those, and the Chem-Dogs...I've got a soft spot for penal troopers too, and there's something darkly cheerful about how they're allowed to loot whatever they want and their, uh, unique method of being kept in line. Who needs explosive collars when they can just send you back to Savlar instead?

I think I posted this image in the last favorite regiment thread that came up, but whatever, I'mma do it again:

It really sums up the appeal of the Death Korps. They're marching off to defend whatever world they're on, a civilian wants to show her thanks with a token gesture, and they just...don't get it. Why do they need a flower? What is a flower, anyway? They're getting a chance to martyr themselves for the Imperium and pay for the rebellion of their planet, and that's all they care about.

Steel Legion. Love their aesthetic, doctrine and lore. Gas masks, trench coats, blitzkrieg mechanized vets who love to brawl orks? Whats not to love? Not to mention mad max style gangers. Its an often overlooked aspect of the Steel Legion but they play a critical role in the defense of hive cities on Armageddon. I've been using Necromunda gangers to represent them up until now. I plan on picking up a Goliath and paint it similar to vehicles in Fury Road. The ganger rules are very outdated and not competitive in any meaningful way but they are a fun addition and enhance the narrative. Steel legion are very forgiving for beginning painters. Little to no skin at all. Lastly, they have Yarrick. The rivalry between him and Ghazghkull is what got me & my brother into 40k. I was drawn towards the guard, he the orks. We have been slowly building our armies over 15+ years and while the Steel Legion and Orks have fought countless times never once have Ghaz/Yarrick fought. We plan to in the future on a special day, but until then the arms race continues to escalate as does Ghazghkull's green tide!

I love this picture, though the masks look more Steel Legion, than Krieg, no?

Steel Legionnaires have more practical looking gas masks, shall we say - they don't look like skulls like the Death Korps ones do

Those are Grenadiers masks on bog standard Kriegsmen. They shouldn't have them.

with me it is Cadians, maybe because of their versatility and such or just their basic look (like Earth Army troops).

DKoK because of their fluff, aesthetics and rules. Hades breaching drills just have 'feth you' written all over them.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Death Korps for the style.

Elysian for the tactics

Armageddon Steel Legion for second best at both.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

I don't know much about the background of the IG regiments but I've always liked Valhallans aesthetically. If GW ever do the other regiments in plastic I'd love to use the Valhallan models, but have them coming from a place a bit more like Skyrim and less like Hoth.
