Subject: Daemon Prince of Khorne: Axe or Sword ?

The title says it all. I'm leaning towards the axe for the -2 rend but the sword is tempting since it would hit on 2's. Any insight would be appreciated. My army as it stands lacks units with rend. I was thinking a the axe would be useful for cracking tough units/characters. Thanks!

Worth note, if a Daemon Prince is a major source of rend for your army that's likely an issue. As a rule of thumb I'd say having more than half your points in models with no rend means you probably need more of it

@Ninthmusketeer as it stands my Blood Warriors, Bloodreavers, Chaos Knights, and a few of my heroes lack rend because of how they are modeled. I could always proxy different weapons I suppose to change that.

If you want pure mathammer, I ran the numbers last time this came up: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/701870.page#8889813 TL;DR: Sword is technically slightly better, even given the difference in rend. Personally prefer axes for aesthetic reasons tho - Salvage

@Salvage thanks for the link to the thread with your mathhammer. I guess the sword seems to be the better option with the increased chance to hit (even more so with Khorne since its 2+ to hit). I like the look of the axe more too especially for a Khorne army. One benefit of the -2 rend that is very situational involves units that ignore rend if it's only -1.

I doubt most people would case if you used sword rules with an axe. it's not modelling for advantage. just be clear and consistent. I'd specifically write it in your list so no one could say you're cheating.
it's not like 40k where it's going to make a huge huge difference or you're going to specifically target a model

Thanks for the help everyone. I've decided to go with the axe based on looks. Also, as mentioned above, I can probably get away with using the sword rules provided I inform my opponent ahead of time (if I wanna mix things up).
