Semi-competitive list that I would like some thoughts on. The group I play with are fairly casual. Typically no net listing, but we still try to play to win. The list tries to spam Obj Sec units, with some heavy hitters DS or outflanking the enemies.
First I will go over the core of the list real quick, followed by sections on options that I am considering.

++ Black Crusade Detachement ++

[Core - Chaos Warband]

[HQ] - See section below

[Heavy] - See section below

5x CSM - Rhino, Meltagun, Melta Bomb (125)
5x CSM - Rhino, Meltagun, Melta Bomb (125)

5x Chosen - Rhino, 2x Meltagun, Melta Bomb (150)

3x Chaos Bikes, 2x Meltagun (95)

[Aux - Fist of the Gods]

Warpsmith (110) (probably goes with one of the CSM squads)

3x Chaos Vindicator - combi-bolter, D possession, Maelstrom raider (445)

Chaos Predator - HB Sponson (95)
Chaos Predator - HB Sponson (95)

[Formation - Mayhem Pack]

3x Helbrutes (300) (* See section below)

So thats about 1540 points. I still have to fill the lord slot and the heavy slot in the Chaos Warband, but the basics are there. Predators would sit in the back line, while the CSM and bikes try to move up the board and grab objectives. Turn 2, hope for the vindicators to come in from outflank and the helbrutes to deepstrike in. In the formation, I can outflank the vindicators and drop that huge Apoc blast that ignores cover.

Chaos Lord & Havocs:

With the chaos lord, I was thinking either a melee biker lord or to take Huron for his outflank ability. Biker lord would be simply Lord + Bike + Sigil + PF/LC. I felt the lord would give me more melee presence and a better target for the free boons.

As for the heavies, it depends on which lord I take. If I took the chaos biker lord, I would take:
5x Havocs - 4x Autocannons, Rhino

Where as if I took Huron, I would take:
5x Havocs - 4x Meltaguns, Rhino. Might spred the melts so both the havocs and the chosen both have 3x meltaguns. Then infiltrate them with Huron's warlord trait.

Helbrutes

I want to try and keep at least 1 helbrute in the list, because I've got a fantastic model converted up and painted, and want to use it on the table. As far as my choices, I was considering either a) keep them in a Mayhem Pack, or b) drop 1 and take the remaining 2 as a part of the Chaos Warband detachement.

The Mayhem pack is fun to use, and I've used it to great measure in the past. But at the same time, it's randomness has bit me in the @$$ more times than I would like to admit. I do like the flexibility of being able to deploy them anywhere, but there are obvious risks associated with that. Mishapping and losing 1 of the helbrutes always hurts. Or rolling fire frenzy when you are in position to charge, and popping 2 multi-melta shots into a unit of guardians.

Dropping 1 helbrute and taking 2 obj sec helbrute as a part of the chaos warband would free up 100 pts. Not sure what I would use it for... 5 more bikes? 3 spawn?

Thoughts?

I'm not a fan of the mayhem pack. The mobility is nice, but once you take into account scatter, mishaps, not being able to fire the turn you come down, touble tapping when you want to charge, they're just not worth the few times that they work.

I'd say take a pair of helbrutes and use the spare points to grab mark of nurgle on your biker lord and 3 nurgle spawn to escort him. If you are against Nurgle for whatever reason, then bulk out your bikers and make your biker lord into a juggerlord with the AoBF - if he manages to get some gifts, he might even survive the battle occasionally

Thanks for that input. I was sort of leaning towards that direction. I think the formation has bit me in the ass more often than help.

What loadout would you recommend for the helbrutes in this case?

Base MM & PF, it gets the job done for 100 points and it's rare that a MM isn't needed. Besides, all the other ranged options suck. If you've got 15 points spare, a heavy flamer can be a decent investment, but then if they're walking up the field, you're not going to have too many 4+ armour units getting close enough to use it on, so I wouldn't bother if you're not going to run a mayhem pack.

take the helbrute he can obj secure if his part of the band, havoks need autocannos, lord on bike does the job, maybe you should use vindis not as group after 3 shoots will always scare your opponents. And usally you dont get to shoot the big shot

Thoughts on the idea of outflanking vindicators? Is it viable? Is it worth the extra 25 points?
