So ive played 40k for awhile (Necrons/Tau) and just recently was able to acquire maybe 8000-9000 point tyranid army, and as i know some of the models and can figure some of the weapons (maybe 1/5 of them all) i cant figure out what is what. Is there a chart or some way i can get an idea what is on what model without having to post a ton of pictures?

9700 pts W:3-T:3-L:3
6700 pts W:5-T:2-L:3
165 pts W:3-L:4
169 pts W:0-L:0

your best bet it's mostly codex and basic loadout with some comparison with games workshop models and built options.

the specific nature of nyds like Orks means they can pretty much use anything as an specific weapon due the way they *build* them.

You could go look at Lexicanum or another wiki's pages on the Tyranid arsenal, you should be able to find what weapon looks like what pretty quickly that way.

I firmly remember the epiphany I had when reading the first Tyranid Codex with biomorphs. I knew I would no longer be able to play my Tyranids. Sold them shortly thereafter.

See, they're not so much weapons, as they are natural parts of the Tyranids' bodies that are used to kill people. Like claws, or quills, or fangs.

That is what I would say. After all how can you play with them if you don't have a codex? Unless he has the codex and not being familiar with Nids it would be hard to understand what is what and where to look.

So if you don't have the codex, buy it or do what ever you do, and then post pics on what you need to know. Just curious do you plan to play this army and using WYSISYG so need to know what the weapons are, or just curious to know what they are and going to use "counts as" or just using it for a modelling project/collection?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?
