With the necessity of pregame negotiation in 40k now, what are the more normal requests? No superheavies or GMCs on either side works as long as no one brings Knights, but what other things could balance out a game? If you are facing a Tau player and request no markerlights, what is reasonable to give up in return?

If you're facing a Tau player and requesting no markerlights, I'd be surprised if they didn't immediately drop the game and go play someone else.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

I think it's hardly possible to give a list of things that shouldn't be used as it's totally dependant on the armies facing each other. In my gaming group the Necron player accepted to not use a decurion anymore for example - now that Traitor Legions is out we'll probably see if we'll allow it again.
Concerning Tau taking away their markerlights would usually cripple the whole army. Similar if you tell Space Wolves to not use any Thunderwolves or Wulfen.

I see a lot more of people asking if they can adjust their lists based on whether the other guy's using Flyers/GMCs/etc than I have people asking the other guy not to use certain things.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I don't usually ask them to change their list, all I ask is that they don't tailor.

When I say Dark Eldar, and I come up against a list that has all of it's lascannons replaced with Heavy Bolters I question what their list would've looked like If I said Imperial Knights.

My general list of things to have, or not have, Include:

1. Lords of War
2. Allies, or more than one FOC
3. Formations (let's be honest, some of them are REALLY unbalanced)

I'm one of those guys that prefers a game to be like 3rd edition. One FOC, no allies (I'll allow it for Chaos Marines/ Daemons, and Mechanicus) and no superheavies.

Armies are supposed to have strengths and weaknesses. Work with them and against them. If everyone has a tool for everything we may as well be playing chess.

My only requests i have in friendly games are as follows.

1) No pretending an OP unit is not OP. (IE saying a riptide is a totally fair and balanced unit that has no issue what so ever when you damn well know thats BS)

2) Would request not to bring flyers unless both sides have them

2.a) If flyers are a key unit of your list, would request that i can nominate one unit to have sky fire.

3)Ignore DfTS rules

4)To please disclose all formation special rules.
