Plummeting Black Templar Thunderhawk Pilot

So after me and a friend finished splitting two prosperos and one calth I find myself with 5 Cataphracti terminators and no idea what loadout to give them other than a heavy flamer (Death Guard).
Could someone point me in the right direction for both a fluff friendly, and useful, loadout for them that includes the heavy flamer?
Ta very muchly,

I run them with twin lightning claws, and a chainfist/heavy flamer on one. The sergeant has a combi bolter and power weapon, mostly to save points but also to give them basic ranges abilities.

I was thinking LC/CB on 4, then HF/LC on the last one. Maybe if the HF had chainfist to help out that little bit against armour?

I don't like 'em with Lightning claws, personally. I know it's a decent way to run 'em but I figure death guard have access to more fun anti-infantry. I run mine with fists, 2 in 10 with chain fists, 2 in 10 with heavy flamers for fluff (or reaper autocannons, 'cause they are cool lookin')

chainfists, plasma blaster. Chainfists are worth every penny. So is the plasma blaster, reliable double tap.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did. |

I second Chainfists, at least 1 or 2, especially because when I see enemy cataphractii my instinct is to charge a dreadnought into them.
Nothing wrong with the power weapons they get standard, mauls are actually decent and pair well with chainfists. Axes are always useful. I avoid swords personally, but spears might be a good option for 30K, not very DG though, unless they're rusty. The Sgt can take a Power scythe if I'm not mistaken, so I would do that just bc cool, and I think it has good rules too.
If you're doing DG then maybe combi flamers would be worth the upgrade points.

I think a lot of what you equip your units with depends on which legion you chose to run.
Blood Angels for example have +1 to wound in combat so actually Power Swords aren't as gak with them, the same goes for World Eaters or any other army with easy access to Furious Charge.
As a Sons of Horus player, I actively avoid unwieldy weapons so I can get my bonus attacks from the Merciless Fighters special rule. Although I recognize the necessity of Chainfists, so I always throw a few in for good measure. I find it interesting though that my Justaerin are designed to come with power axes, a weapon that benefits that unit the least.
For me it's either Lightning Claws or Chainfists. I see no real point to any other weapon loadouts for Terminators. They don't gain bonus attacks for having pistols, I like to have a minimum of AP3 on my close combat weaponry (especially in HH), and I don't loose out on attacks form Merciless Fighters with Lightning Claws.
For ranged weapons, it depends on what you want the unit to do.
Combi-melta/Chainfist for all 5 terminators if you wanna go tank hunting
Volkite Charger/Lightning Claw and a single Heavy Flamer for Infantry hunting.
I have a 10 man unit of Justaerin too for fun. 2x Multi-meltas, 4x Combi-Plasma, 3x Chain Fists, 3x Single Lightning Claws, 4x Dual Lightning Claws.

I mix weapons. I run 5 with Power axes, three with TLC, a guy with a PF/HF and a chainfist man. I might upgrade the Sergeant to get a volkite weapon and a legatine power axe. That thing is nice.

Only Independent Characters can have Legatine axes, sadly.
My Fulmentarii all will have power axes, since ap2 is nice to defend themselves. My other cataphractii will all have fists, with sergeant being armed with a chain fist.

I haven't played a 30k game yet, or even built half of my army, but I know how I want to run them. Squad of 5 includes 3 power fists with combi plasmas, 1 chainfist with combi plasma, 1 chainfist with plasma blast. Attatch Praetor in a spartan and go hunt TEQ.

I got resin ones I set them up as tactical instead of assault they can survive foot slogging across the board so I went with reaper Autocannons and a few thunder hammers.
Tarterus I'd set up for assault as they don't suffer the penalties cataphractiiri do.

Since you are going to be stuck in for a while with Cataphractii, and can't run them down, you best make every hit count - power or chain fists is my preference.
The only Cataphractii armed guys who aren't running around with fists for me are Fulmentarii, since if they get in close combat it's gone tits up anyways.

Since I play Raven Guard, my sergeant has the obligatory set of Raven's Talons, but after that it's all power/chainfists. I had a smattering of claws and my unit did NOTHING in combat so I swapped out my claws for fists. I still have the heavy flamer, but the other 3 dudes have combi-bolters.
