The key to this question is which is "your favorite" not "which is best". My vote goes to black legion. Hatred everything helps me bot roll poorly, and i like the ability to mix marks in my army.

WHile i like the WE for pragmatic reasons.

i really like the Alpha Legion "Many heads of the Hydra", it makes me lol when i se it and i can imagine the other guy frustration.

"Yeah i've got your Warlord, VP's for me!, oh and i get extra VP's for the Kingslayer Obj card..."
"Nope"
"...wait what?, yeah i do, i just slayed your Warlord, it was your Warlord isn't it?"
"technically yes, but no..."
"Wait i'm confused..."
"thats what we do, thats what we do..."

Iron warriors, I'm a big collector of fortifications and the fact they don't have to ally them in AND get fearless while sitting in they, awesome.

Runner up is Deathguard, soooo tanky that I just want to footslog them in IW colors just for the heck of it

I'm going with Nightlords. I've loved their fluff for a long time and the rerolling charges and cover saves are icing on the cake. Emperors children would be a close second for the same reason. The Kakophany is 9 kinds of awesome and luscius with a 3+ FNP makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Plus, I've already got 4 units of noise marines.

Night Lords but I am biased.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

Like most of them, but love the nightlords cause they're just a bunch of murderous f*ckers who are full of hate!

If anyone can live up to the fact that they encompass hatred & all the base emotions, it's these guys. I even think that they fit the fact that they could be a bunch of cowardly douches who fail leadership tests cause they don't have Shall Know No Fear fluff.

Plus their paint scheme is a little bit more challenging than the rest of the legions (BL cause it was easy to mass paint & I was lazy & just needed them painted).

Emperors children and AL are tied.

The first because it makes my noise marines much better and I get to run again an army of cocaine fueled maniacs. Plus S5 shredding with ignores cover and 3 shots at 24'' is so gross against orks/wulfen/assault armies.

The latter because it's SO TROLLWORTHY.

Thousand Sons for carpet-flamers of doom and making a serious effort to cut down on trash/filler-power syndrome. Alpha Legion and Emperor's Children in the other two spots on the podium for fitting so neatly both the lore and the jokes (in both cases).

Well, I'm abstaining from the vote as I think they're all pretty kickass. Tons of flavour in all of them, each with a really well designed and thought out character. Not a single dud amongst them.

My favorite overall is DG because T6 bikes with FNP.
But if I were to actually play CSM (Daemon player here) I would play 3 allied detachments added to a small Daemon CAD:
1 Nightlord with stealth cultists, 1 Iron Warriors with Oblits and 1 Alpha legion with infiltrating cultists. All 3 would have Tz DPs with the various 2+ armour artifact.

I love the Alpha Legion rules. I think they're on the lower end (maybe middle) of the power scale for the 9 legions but the rules are so fluffy. Many Heads of the Hydra is perfect, infiltration is exactly what we wanted and expected and the formation benefit of shrouding on turn 1 nicely represents the confusion an Alpha Legion attack would create; units not knowing whether they're shooting at friendlies or enemies, AL units attacking from unexpected directions etc.

I think Night Lords are my favourite rules though. Stealth alone means the army is going to play on the table as they're represented in the fluff- sticking to the shadows until they jump out and attack. Stealth is a good enough rule that their buffed Fear isn't necessary but is nice to have for fluff (and probably effective in the right circumstances)

I have been a Death Guard collector since 3.5 (didnt play till late 5th edition though) and while everyone clamors over how great that book was, really we only had fearless and +1 T (in brackets). FNP was originally a Khorne thing. We were only allowed 2 rhinos for troops, and the rest became our only fast attack units. 5th gave us FNP, so they actually did get better, even though the codex itself was bland.

I think they are finally where they need to be now.

Night Lords had stealth adept, Night vision, and guaranteed Night Fighting, so i bought some bat ear helms and their Night Lords Hero model (power fist and combi flamer... my favorite model by far but completely unfieldable). But since i didn't play till 5th, they were nothing but a paint scheme.... the Night Lords, unable to see at night? They remained shelved. I even cinsidered Crimson Slaughter for the fear at least... but it always bothered me the Legion of Night didnt have any night benefits...Till now!

So, Death Guard just got better and better each edition. And my Night Lords are finally Night Lords.

Black Legion for me. They still get to take and mix Marks, have a solid and unique Core Formation, have the Cyclopea Cabal in their Decurion, Endless Hatred is nasty, Deep Striking on the first turn is nasty. Overall there are lots of ways to play them, which appeals to me.

And They Shall Not Fit Through Doors!!!

Black Legion isn't my favourite because they essentially play exactly like before. Only better due to free hatred and VotLW. Deepstriking turn one is cute, but without scatter mitigation it's only that, cute. What's more, if they had an ObSec warband like everybody else, it would go from cute to awesome. Getting terminators as troops is cool, but you only benefit from that in a CAD and ironically, not having ObSec in the speartip makes them loose that advantage. In a CAD they benefit even less than Word Bearers really.

The whole deepstrike thing and terminators is fluffy and all, but I feel that the supplement didn't really impact them much. Least not as much as other legions, except maybe for word bearers. In fact I'm thinking of using the Wrold eaters rules and detachment and jsut paint them up as hounds of Abaddon.

My favorite legion by far is the Black Legion. Even if Abbadon lost both his arms, and lost hilariously bad 13 times ( and is trying to fight an attrition war with the IG.) I still love the Black Legion. Something about being Chaos Undivided just seems super neat to me, and allows me to be able to think of myself as apart of a chaos warband without having to: Look like a giant pus pimple, eat the heart of my enemies to gain their courage (and then mutilate their corpses), have a weird BDSM horror fetish, or turn into a bird.

Plus their paint job is probably the coolest one in comparison to the other traitor legions. I like the paint job so much, I think Abbadon only continues to be the Warmaster (or whatever) of chaos because he came up with such a rad looking paint scheme; however, I'd drop that girly ponytail for a Huron Blackheart coup any day.
