Hi all,
Today I began a new project; a third "wing" of my on-going Chaos army. It's technically an army for Warhammer Fantasy, I suppose, but I've never really played any games with it and it's sort of become more of a sprawling art project at this point than anything else. Anyway, the Slaanesh parts of it will hopefully be uploaded here at some point in the future, but for now I'm working on an Khorne expansion. The theme will be undead-based, with the idea that the Lord is the only living person in the force and Khorne reanimates those she kills to further serve her (and his own) means.

The package that arrived for me this morning, with enough parts to build the basis of the force.

"The bones are willing but the flesh is weak." - Pestilents
These guys are undead Marauders, whose bones are not properly worthy to serve Khorne. They are near mindless, and act as cannon fodder for the rest of the army.

"May our deaths serve our Lady better than we served Khorne in life." - Scions
These are the undead warriors; all flesh has been stripped from them, leaving only bones and their armor. They retain some portion of their former memory, imbued by Khorne, but their rage and hatred are amplified tenfold.

"Death walks beneath our hooves."
- Mounted Scions
Undead knights, same deal as the regular Scions.

All of the models still need cleaning, basing and sorting with Liquid Green Stuff, and there's still 3 Ogre Pestilents to convert and of course the Lady of the Army on her undead Dragon. Modelling and painting updates will follow as I progress!

Just some quick updates for now:

Army based and Liquid Green Stuff applied, including the 3 Ogre Pestilents.

The Lady riding her Zombie Dragon is also complete, so everything's ready to get undercoated and commence with painting!

WIP painting began on the Knights and Warriors. The Dragon and rider are also started, then I'll move on to the Pestilents.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Knights still need shields and snow/tufts added to basing, but are otherwise done. Warriors are pretty close too, then onto the Pestilents and finishing off the Dragon.

Long time, no update! Here are some more things I've been working on in the meantime (photos not great but I'll work on a better set-up for next time):

First 5 Pestilent Marauders painted.

Lady of Chaos on Undead Dragon painted (the extreme bloody look wasn't nesc. what I'd intended, but my hand was sort of forced when I slipped a lot painting the red on the wings and had to cover it up, lol)

WIP painting of a Pestilent Horseman (Marauder Horseman)

10 Marauders with Great Weapons from the Slaanesh division of the army, showcasing my extreme inability to paint eyes. I was fairly happy with the champion, but the photo didn't come out super great.

They're a mix of Celtos Swordmaidens (without the cloaks) and Chronopia Blade Maidens (with the cloaks), and there's 10 more to be painted to complete the unit. I have a lot of weird, old and esoteric minis lying around to press into use for this project; it's part of the fun, I find, to source things from large numbers of companies and ranges. Really helps me zone in on my vision for the different units without resorting to heavy greenstuffing/scratch building!

Yeah, I've seen your Exodites before and they look really kick-ass; I only hope I can even come close to compare with mine! I'm planning on going a little more of the traditional dinosaur nomad theme than the gnarly "creepy alien nature" theme you have going on though.

Farseer painted (apologies for terrible photos, still need to work on set-up). I might go over the sword rune with a highlight, but otherwise I think she's done.

Some new stuff I've been working on the last few days:

2nd Pestilent Horseman, still needs snow added to base.

WIP Temple Chariot (Slaanesh), still needs horses finishing and snow basing done.

4-man unit filler for the Scions on foot, Chaos hero just beheaded some poor Empire infantryman.

Exodite Pathfinder using the Ranger models, each squad of Guardians is assigned one Pathfinder to guide them through the dangers of their desert world.

Ooh nice

I like the idea of homebrewing exodites with Ranger sergeants. Especially now that all units can split-fire in 8th.

Nice paint too

Went home over the weekend and photographed the other half of my Chaos army. Some of the painting is pretty old and most of the bases need either finishing or touching up (some of the old snow effect is starting to yellow/brown, ooo er).

Greater Daemon of Slaanesh.

Slaanesh Temple Warriors (3 in the back are unfinished).

Slaanesh Heroes, there's a Beastrider Lord, Mounted Sorceress, and three Heroes on foot.

Slaanesh Marauder Horsemen with whips.

Warhounds.

Diaz Seekers of Slaanesh.

Daemon Princess Conversion based on the old Saint Celestine model.

My "pride and joy", if you will; Mountain Aurochs Riders, part of the Undivided Beastrider faction.

Tzeentch Warriors and Beastmen Irregulars.

A Lord's Stonehorn; the Lord in question is currently being rebuilt.

A second unit of Slaanesh Marauder Horsemen; part of the "Wolf Cult" faction in the force.

Wolf Cult Werewolves.

Army shot.

I also grabbed a bunch of stuff to work on regarding Exodites, so expect some meaty updates from them at some point soon as well. Hope you enjoy!

I wrote this minor bit of fluff for the beginnings of my Exodite force too, extrapolating a canon planet that doesn't have much lore to fit my purposes. I actually know very little about the 40k lore, so please let me know if anything seems totally outlandish.

Esmenai XI, Dawnstrider, Vessel of the Twin Suns, Mistress of a Thousand Sands, Lightbringer, Farseer Prime

Rand XXI is a harsh, desolate desert world, home only to a small group of battlehardened Adepta Sororitas that maintain the priory fortress Imperator Deus, or so the codexes would have the people of the Imperium believe. For use, the Exodites of Rand XXI, this lie is greatly welcomed.

We fled here many ages ago under the command of our clan's most powerful Farseer, Esmenai. She brought us deliverance amongst the sands of this place, while our brothers and sisters on the Craftworlds fell to temptation and greed. At first, we were few in number, and the beasts and sandstorms of Rand XXI beat us down again and again with every attempt at survival we made. But Esmenai never surrendered. It was her, and her alone, that maintained the World Spirit during those early struggles to hold onto our new home. She is the only reason we survived out here at all.

Some of us believe that she leads us still, her spirit guiding her successors from beyond the Warp with a determined hand. Most of us know that to be impossible, no matter how comforting such a fact would be, but her memory does still shape our people's will to live, no, thrive, in this wild place. The Warlocks and Worldsingers still honor her, and our leaders are still chosen with her name to invoke her determined spirit. Esmenai does still lead us, in words and deeds if not in body, and it falls upon our shoulders to uphold her legacy for generations to come.

Liking the fluff too giving some depth to a throwaway world in the fluff is one of my favourite things looking forward to more

Finally finished the blasted Avatar; there's a couple slips and a skull on his loincloth I didn't paint skull color and just left orange, which I may go back and address later, but for now I'm calling it done. Realised about 1/2 way through that I should have left off the head until it was painted separately, but you live and learn I suppose. Photos isn't great; will try and get a better one tomorrow when the lightning is better.
