Define "reasonable".
GW is not a charity created to provide miniatures to you at an affordable cost, they're a for-profit business with a goal of maximizing profits for their shareholders. The "reasonable" cost for a kit is (as a rough approximation) at the intersection between the supply and demand curves, where total profit is maximized. There's an argument that
GW's prices are too high because they'd make more total profit by selling a larger number of boxes at a smaller cost per box, but I don't think that's the kind of "reasonable price" you're talking about here.
And it's not just the one unit you picked that's a problem. Comparing
raw material costs to the final sale price tells you nothing. You still have to account for labor costs in casting the models, shipping costs getting them to the stores, rent on the space each store uses (or profit at each level of the distribution chain for sales to third-party stores), replacement costs for customer service issues, theft/damage losses, artist salaries, rule author salaries, marketing, website operation and tech support, etc. And remember,
GW is a publicly-traded company so they're legally obligated to publish certain financial information. That includes their annual revenue, total expenses, and profits. We know what
GW's profit margins are as a company and they aren't all that impressive.
