You haven't taken into account a lot of costs like packaging, paying the factory workers or the costs of the molds/modeller. Not only that but you are assuming that they can sell hundreds of Space Marine officers a day. They'd be lucky to sell 50 a month since an army needs so few of them.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.
The Empire : ~60-70 models.

This. Your example has nothing to do with reality, and this thread is pointless.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

yeah I guess you are right... I was using the commander because it was easy to measure. keep in mind though I was only meaning to say that its unreasonable to charge the money that they do. I apologize...

Define "reasonable". GW is not a charity created to provide miniatures to you at an affordable cost, they're a for-profit business with a goal of maximizing profits for their shareholders. The "reasonable" cost for a kit is (as a rough approximation) at the intersection between the supply and demand curves, where total profit is maximized. There's an argument that GW's prices are too high because they'd make more total profit by selling a larger number of boxes at a smaller cost per box, but I don't think that's the kind of "reasonable price" you're talking about here.

And it's not just the one unit you picked that's a problem. Comparing raw material costs to the final sale price tells you nothing. You still have to account for labor costs in casting the models, shipping costs getting them to the stores, rent on the space each store uses (or profit at each level of the distribution chain for sales to third-party stores), replacement costs for customer service issues, theft/damage losses, artist salaries, rule author salaries, marketing, website operation and tech support, etc. And remember, GW is a publicly-traded company so they're legally obligated to publish certain financial information. That includes their annual revenue, total expenses, and profits. We know what GW's profit margins are as a company and they aren't all that impressive.

No.
First of all, you didn't calculate assembly costs, the salaries of line workers, the cost of designing the model, the cost of making molds, cost of distribution, actual demand, and a few dozen other factors.
Second of all, no, GW does not sell 128 Space Marine Commanders every day.
Third. What does the Shark Punching Center have to do with this?

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

You bring back memories of when CD burners were new, and companies were still trying to figure DRM out, and people would argue, 'A CD burner costs a hundred bucks, a blank CD is a nickel. There's no reason I should have to pay $50 for a game. The companies are just greedy and ripping us off."

ok I calculated this crap

Noooooooooo, you didn't.
