So I have found some unused Gk models. Not enough for an army, but I could turn it into one. Been out of 40k for a short while now, primarily playing AoS. Do you think it worth build up that GK force? Last time I checked, they were rather neglected and Imperial Agents didn't seem to have helped their case. I would hate to build up GK only to find them unuseable further down the line and their current state also seems rather limited compared to the Big Four SM books. The alternative would be selling them off.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Cheers

How often do you think you will be getting games in until June?? 1 a month? Maybe once a week? Maybe only 2 or 3 times?

If you will get lots of games it might be worth expanding on and buying the codex and rules if you don't have it. If you don't think you will get many games in, the few games you do have, will it still be worth it to you to buy the minis, and codex and rules?

Once June comes around, things COULD change with a new edition and everything you just bought might not be used after. So if you can get YOUR worth out of it, I say yes expand on it. If not, then it's a GAMBLE and I would say no, not worth it then.

They are nice minis, why not just keep them for your collection. If not, then sell them like you said.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

GK don't work very well as a primary army for reasons more dependent on the models than on the rules (the limited equipment set isn't going to suddenly expand with an edition change). If I were you I'd assume that the GK are going to need to be fielded alongside a different army both today and after the edition change, and look at grabbing some Guardsmen or normal Marines if you wanted to put them on the table.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

They work fine if your spamming Terminators and Dreadknights. They arent tourny winners or anything but in a casual setting they're fine, if one dimensional. I will parrot what everyone else is saying, dont bother until the edition update.

Will they be worth the investment given the amount games I would play? Sure. Will they be worth the work put into them? Arguable. I tend to take a while.

The plastics ain't going away though. At least I would doubt it. My hope is that they will get a decurion and maybe one or two extra boxes.

Is there another way to get mileage out of them? Magnetised arms and maybe a slight conversion here or there to field them with a more solid set of rules? I like that faith-based style and I am not too concerned what I rules I use as long as they fit and make it enjoyable to play

They're not Tier 1 for competitive gamers, but few things are. In most groups they'll be fine.

Your options are more limited compared to regular SM - but the current edition is very generous for taking allies and I doubt that would change - so you can get some of their cool stuff anyway.

I'd look at borrowing their Codex and a rulebook from a friend (or buying them used on eBay) and play a few games to decide if you like the feel (maybe play a few test scenarios against yourself proxying AoS in figs to learn the rules).

Well, I have a standing SW army, so that's not an issue. However, now that you say it, Stormcasts make for pretty decent GK. I guess that way I can try them out.

If you only have a handful, why not use them as allies to an IOM army you do have?

It never ends well

Fair enough, though I do not see why it would make a whole lot of sense. Besides, I am selling off plenty of old stuff but I wanted to keep GK because I like the models. Not to happy with their current incarnation though. I think waiting for 8th might be smarter. Got AoS to keep my busy until then.

Could be a fun ally in an imperial army.
