Hi all, i just thought that i would share my experience with Army painter spray primer, daemonic yellow.
First things first, i would like to point out that i really wanted to like this spray, i personally think the colour is perfect. however, i had some real issues with it.

So, after buying this can i begin to spray, and it becomes immediately obvious to me that this paint is thick as hell, and you must take extreme care to not clog the detail, which is surprisingly easy. this is also made even more difficult by the fact it has very poor coverage, meaning you will need more than 2 coats to get the full, strong yellow.
you can see in the above image after 1 coat.

you can also see the 'spekeled' look that happens on his right leg here, this is due to paint thickness.

Here if you zoom in on the scout you can see that the paint has just settled in all the recesses, acting kindof like an irritating detail covering wash.

Another thing is that the nozzle on mine would spray well, but got progessively worse untill the paint was literally dribbling out of the can. i though it was a blockage or something, and soaked the nozzle in some really aggresive paint stripper and it came out spotless, so there was no chance that this can had been blocked, and resumed spraying, only for this problem to begin again, and within 5 minutes the paint was dribbbling out again. so i thought maybe the can was low on propellant but after pressing the valve down with a toothpick to check, (and also covering myself in yellow spray paint) it was clear that that wasnt the problem.
So i went on ebay to buy a replacemnet nozzle, which i found and tried and again it worked fantastically well for a few sprays before dribbling out.

And it was at that point that i gave up, as this can has cost me far too much effort than it is going to be worth for a 200 point SM kill team.

with all that said, i acheived a semi decent finish on the rhino, whether or not that was because it doesnt have much detail to obscure or not i'm not sure.

So only buy this paint if your 100% sure its the colour you want, also make sure to prime in white before yellow as this will make it much easier for you to cover in yellow and need less coats. and be prepared to be frustrated. I personally wont buy it again, which is a shame because i wanted to expand this SM force but this spray can killed me a little bit inside with all the frustrations.

Hope this is helpful to some of you.
Cheers

Thanks for the review. Shame about the yellow, I have heard some people say to avoid Army Painter yellow spray.

An alternative for a yellow basecoat might be Tamiya's coloured spray, they make a few different yellow sprays. I haven't tried them myself, but I love Tamiya's flat yellow in bottle form for airbrushing and the other Tamiya sprays I've tried have been brilliant. The downside will be the cost, they're not the cheapest in the world, but I usually justify it to myself by thinking 1 can will coat quite a few dollars worth of miniatures

What was the temperature and humidity like in the spray area?
I'd imagine not good at this time of year.
Those sprays need shaking for 5 mins at least and throughout spraying and need the occasional upside down spray to clear the nozzle.

Yeah, I am making a second try at these sprays after vowing to be very vigilant about turning them upside down to clear the nozzle, after I had terrible problems with that before.

The first time around, I sprayed a sizeable 20-30 man Ork force with Angel Green, but after the can sat for a month or two between projects, the nozzle was completely unuseable and mostly the paint backed up into the depression at the top of the can, and a couple of times even kept spraying after I stopped pushing it. Then I tried a can of Uniform Grey and it was exactly the same.

I am trying again with some Gunmetal for a Stormcast skirmish force, and Uniform Grey for some Space Wolves, and will make sure to spray upside down everytime I need to set the can down to reposition models.

Keep your fingers crossed, as the last time was very demoralizing for such expensive paint, especially as when it worked initially, I loved the results.

While I love Army Painter sprays, there are some which are better than others and occasionally inconsistent between cans. I also live in a swampy area so humidity is not kind. I have that Daemonic Yellow but I don't think I've actually tried to use it yet.

I have rescued numerous cans with simply using other nozzles (you can buy bags of them).

I've stopped buying them completely now.
At one stage I swore by them as they were the best cans around.

Now they are nothing but issues.

The bone spray is like this, very thick and clogs detail, yet at the same time it's got very poor coverage.
Tried 3 different cans as it may have been a bad one but same result with all 3.
Yet a while back I sprayed up over 200 VC skeletons without issue.

Silver spray is even worse.
On top of being very thick with less coverage than bone, it has a gloss finish.
To the extent that trying to paint over it is almost impossible as paint runs off it, washes run off with no adhesion to it what so ever.
And this was again multiple cans as I had to paint up 7 knights, yet didn't want to pay GW leadbelcher prices.

Long story short?
I either use GW sprays as I know they will work or I use Halfords sprays for priming.
Both of which are great but Halfords are £4 for a larger can lol.

Same here, I use Halfords spray exclusively now for undercoating/priming. Had several issues previously with nozzles clogging on Army Painter sprays.

It was about 3 degrees celcius, but i had soaked the can in warm water for about 5 mins to ensure that the paint was warm enough to spray with. And in terms of humidity, i couldnt give a number but it wasnt wet, it was one of those "dry and cold" type mornings
