A long time lore fan, I recently got into painting through the Dark Angles box set. At first, it was just a fun passtime and I didn't care much for how things would work in a game but recently, I have been looking fwd and thinking I may want to try my hand at rolling some dice.

So, my issue is, I was recently given the Space Marine Stalker/hunter set and, looking through the only 40k rulebook I own, the Dark Angels Codex, their armory mentions "rhinos" but not these specific variants. If I were to paint this model in Dark Angels colors, would it not be allowed in game play? Sorry for what is probably a very noob question...

There are common elements to the 'Space Marine' motor pool, but every Chapter's got unique vehicles the others aren't allowed. The Dark Angels have special Flyers and Land Speeders, the Blood Angels have fast Predators with different turret guns and fancy Dreadnaughts, et cetera.

The Stalker and Hunter are in the vanilla Space Marine Codex but not in any of the others. If you want to use them you've got to designate an HQ and a Troops choice as vanilla Space Marines to make them an Allied Detachment that can use the vehicle, or you need to get two more so you can use the formation in the Marine book that allows it.

Personally I'd recommend taking the Rhino chassis out of it and saving the Stalker/Hunter parts for other purposes, ground-based AA isn't really that useful in the game these days and you don't need to go buy a whole extra Codex just to use one vehicle.

(We were all n00bs once. I recall getting grumpy when I was getting started back in 4th that I couldn't make an army of all Fire Dragons.)

Thanks. Yah, my biggest n00b mistake so far is putting the chapter symbols on the wrong shoulder. It was an easy mistake as I had just finished putting terminators together and just kept on going with the tacticals... Oh well, I guess I will have a dyslexic squad in my mix.

Fluff

Make up a reason, maybe they swapped till they say felt they repented from failing a mission or act of marking them out until they feel they earned rejoining normal heraldry.

Fluff is so flexible.
And yeah, we all made mistakes. My marines must look like they never read the codex with some of there heralry and colours.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Wasnt there a SM Formation that would allow you to take these?
Since vehicle dont get Chapter Tactics there would be no difference rules-wise to this.

Yep, the Anti Air Defence Force.

In casual play, just ask your opponent if it's OK. Stalker/Hunters are hardly OP, so most people won't object. (I have a Stormtalon in Dark Angels colours from when it was first released and occasionally field it that way.)

Option B: Assuming you haven't glued on the roof hatch, get something like this: http://bitsofwar.com/home/564-legionary-apc-turret-twin-missile-launcher.html

The Stalker/Hunter body actually looks very nice as a Whirlwind, which Dark Angels do have.

Option C: Play your Dark Angels as Green Marines and get access to the standard Marine toys (but lose access to the DA exclusives).

Option D: Bring said formation with your DA's without any loss/problems
