Hello everyone, and welcome back to whatever madness this is that I call my hobby.

In preparation for attending Valhalla this year, I'm making a big push to finish up some of the 9,452* projects I have laying around as part of the Flayed Legion CSM warband. So, in the spirit of motivation, creativity, and accountability, herein will lie the Flayed Legion painting log for Valhalla 2017, because I work best when semi-supervised like the irresponsible adult I am. Enjoy, comment, or ignore if you like.

Better.

First and foremost on the docket is the Reaver Mortis Vult, who has gone largely unfinished ever since I lost my Throne-cursed mind putting it together. Will provide some more detailed shots in the upcoming Goals post. Goalpost. Ha, I amuse myself. In any event, been working on this monster for some time, but my lovely and motivating wife laid it out as a challenge to finish before the big trip, so it will become Public Project #1.



Meanwhile, I'll be assembling the inevitable list of projects to-do and start posting updates when possible. Thanks for reading, comments and hate mail always welcome.

Well I'll be damned (hah!), the Flayed Legion walks among us once more! Can't wait to see more of your lovely heretics!

Also, I don't think I've seen that Slaughterpriest conversion before, is he the latest incarnation of the Flayed Lord himself?

Ha, thanks. And yeah, been a while, but Valhalla's a good reason to start kicking again. And the Slaughterpriest is indeed a...prequel version, for lack of a better term, of the Flayed Lord. Been writing up his history in the free time I can find.

Alright then, on to the GoalPost(tm): or The Crap I Want to Have Finished Before October. (I'm really not good with naming things)


Termies. They're cute, they're cuddly, they're also missing heads and paint on most of their weapons. This shall not stand.


Land Raider. Also cute. Holding up well, but the sponsons aren't built, and the pointy bits need painting. Also some detail work can't hurt.


Raptors. Serious champs in most of my games. Two need to be finished, but they should be simple. Not pictured: A unit of Warp Talons who have rec'd little more than a basecoat of black.


Helbrutes. The Dark Vengeance one was painted shoddily (by me) and needs to be resurfaced a bit to keep up with the others. The 'new' Helbrute is fully magnetized and good to go, looking forward to that project.


Defiler. This guy. Bad spray paint job gave him orange peel all over, so I have to go in and fix that. Otherwise his magnetization (and a kitbashed heavy flamer) are coming along.

Update: Worked on the Defiler while watching Memento with the wife. Great movie. But in other news, got plenty of paint applied.


Brought my spiky skull hat. Where's your spiky skull hat? That's what I thought.


This is Ivan. Say hi, Ivan.


Shoulder magenetized, flamer made from vehicle flamers, pintle mount, couple of lascannon dragon things. Came out alright.

You know what I'm bad at? Cricket. Don't know the rules, never watch the game, can't do an English accent to save my life. What else I'm bad at? Consistent updates. But here's the progress so far, with an unexpected twist.

(Actual twist. Not the Shayamalan twist where I'm actually a dead superhero alien who hates water)

Reaver update first: claw hand is unpacked, cleaned, built, and magnetized for swivel wrist. Defiler for scale because holy crap the size of this thing.



That aside, the Defiler has rec'd most of my attention so far, and is approaching full assembly status. Ta-da.



Keen eyed/bored readers may notice that the Defiler is sitting a bit higher on his legs than normal, which I liked because it looked more menacing. It also made him rather front-heavy once the claws were attached. Rather than re-pose him, because those of you have seen my Kytan engine know I have no tolerance for the laws of physics whatsoever. I added some pinebox derby weights into his hindquarters, and that evened him right out.



And now for DA SCRAPPA!

Why? Because Gorkamorka, of course. I don't know how many people who play Gorkamorka will be at Valhalla, but I know my buddy is bringing his set at least. So it behooves me to crank out some dutiful Morkers to engage in riotous wheeled combat.



Led by Boss Scrap'ead. And his Tinkin' Stick, courtesy of some Space Marine scout from years past.



"Listen up, boys! Dis here Tinkin' Stick is da key! E'ry sneaky Morker gotta keep an open 'ead!"
"Er...boss...it'dn't 'open mind'?"

"Yes boss!"



Also, that spanner's facial expression is now possibly my favorite thing I've ever painted.

Update! Because reasons.

Da Scrappa crew is coming along swimmingly, and the first few members are ready for action. In no particular order, I present to you Boss Scrap'Ead and his permanently-attached Tinkin' Stick. Lighting is a bit poor, will get the gang all together for a group photo shoot.

Also, in the category of Entirely Random Stuff that Fit Together Perfectly, I was tooling around with the Shadow War terrain and discovered that the plastic cover for my LED work lamp fit *perfectly* on top of the silo. And, to boot, my little Bluetooth speaker fit *perfectly* into the base (once the back of the door was shaved down. Which means: TABLETOP MUSIC IN DISGUISE!!

That action pose is possibly the best thing i've seen. Ever.

Thanks, it's one of my favorite things I've ever made. Orks are such canvases for whimsy, it's great.

Don't know if I have the energy to ever do an army of them, but small scale is a lot of fun.
