Subject: WH40K Hobby and New Players To The Fold - Through Iraq to the US!
I've posted in the Swap Shop thread, as well as among my friends in Facebook and such, a list of all of my old military gear, which is up for trade or sell. I've got a pile of stuff just sitting around and if I try to sell it to a surplus store, I'll get next to nothing.
A part of me wants to hold on to that stuff, but it takes up a tremendous amount of room and I have no use for it.
I'm down to trade for pretty much anything nerd-like, but am interested in 40K and WHFB.
(EDIT: I also can't get rid of my pieces of kevlar armor over e-bay. DoD suits tend to track and confiscate military body armor sold over commercial channels.)

I am going to do something a little different and make my warlocks have both the green helmets of the Guardians, and green robes. There will still be blue on the non-robe parts, but that isn't much.
The biggest reason is to set them apart from the Farseer. Players need to know who they are shooting at.

I've been working on a video, similar to the one above. Except this time, hopefully much less boring. It's going to be about Necrons, why they suck so bad now, and how to attempt to win with them.
Hopefully it will be done sometime next week. I'd be filming today, but it's finals week and I'm going to be studying all weekend.

Diesel, I just spotted this thread so I know I'm late to the party but I just had to say, thanks for your service brother. I was in 3rd ID back in '96 and its good hear about you guys. Thanks for the thread!

Diesel, for the 'cron video, consider throwing in some tips about the models too, as most people will probably start necrons for either the fluff or the models, unless they're in an isolated area where no veteran gamers will stop them.
As a side note, what are you studying?

Right now, I'm picking up mostly crap 100 level classes to get my GPA high enough to transfer to USC. My previous stint in college before I joined the army gave me a 2.16 GPA. And then I still have to go to another semester while I am applying for a new school, because if I don't, I don't get paid by the G.I. Bill. So at this point, I'm wasting my benefits, because all of my Gen-Eds are done.
I'm going for an Information Systems Technology B.S.
Yeah, it's hard packing all of the info I want to put in the videos into the 15 minute limit they give. I'll work it out, though. Can you be specific about what you would say about the models?
I'm about half done with another warlock. With both of the helmet and the cloak being green, it's hard to not think that it is far too dull or plain. But I'm going to keep going and post a pic when I'm done, to see what you guys think.
Graveyman, thanks for the support. This thread has either me or someone posting on it at least once every several days, so be sure to subscribe or check back every once in a while. And I'd encourage any military or vets to post their stuff (or any of the other regulars).

For the videos maybe give some tips on assembly, or your impressions on the models.
For example:
-"the immortals (I'm just making this up-I don't have any experience with necrons) are a decent kit, but make sure you don't mix up their arms. They look similar, but each set of arms matches up with only one torso."
-"The flayed ones are really annoying to put together, as their legs are very fragile. Have some greenstuff on hand to make extra bandages that will hold together their joints".

Well, here's the one on Necrons. I think it's an improvement over the last one, but I still wish I could make something more entertaining to actually watch. I'm going to start scripting it next time, I think. We'll see.
Anyway, I am open to criticism. Really. But please do tell me what it good, and what I should do more of.

I picked up a side-job of selling miniatures over E-bay, and I've actually made a few sales in the Swap Shop forum.
I'm working currently on my last warlock, and will have pictures up of them when the whole set is done.
I am also working more on my Wave Serpent, the "Bringer of Fate" ...I'm trying to get the pilot done, but am having some isses deciding to go craftworld colors on his pilot's suit, or do something in brown leather as a WW2 pilot or something. Hm.

Go for the craftworld colors. If you want him to stand out a bit, you could emphasize some of the minor colors, to show a pilot's uniform. the brown leather would clash too much with the vibrant colors of your models.

I thought I'd share a picture of how my Wave Serpent is coming together. Additionally, I am almost completely finished with my Farseer's warlock bodyguards.
Let me know what you think.
E has become a lot harder to get ahold of lately, and from my understanding, the work-load the guys have been under is huge. I would bug them about posting more stuff, but I don't know if we will hear from them again. It's been some time since E has posted, and Kehrer hardly ever has.
I am considering opening a request for any current or veteran soldiers to post their stuff, but I don't know how much of a floodgate that will open.

I'm done with the warlocks, and working heavily on my Wave Serpent. The cockpit is almost done, and afterwards, I'll start assembling parts probably today or tomorrow. Then onto my wraithlord.
I'm doing some custom Decals for my wave serpent. Including my Craftworld/Exodite rune. The idea is to have a different rune additionally on each troop carrier I have to designate the kind of troops in it. I.E., my fire-dragon carrier would have a name reflecting it, like "Deliverer of Suns" or something, and a fire rune below the craftworld rune. Getting my printer to do it properly on my decal sheets can be weird.
Anyhoo... I will hopefully have some additional pictures for you guys in a couple of days.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Two more things. A picture and a new video. Be sure to like it on youtube and comment on youtube as well. I'm trying to build a following.

ANNOUNCEMENT: I haven't heard from E in a while, and Kehrer has never consistently submitted stuff. What I would like to do to share with you guys more stuff all the time (instead of just me showcasing my minis) is to invite any current military or veterans of any country to post their pics and such, with a particular interest in how it relates to their service. This way, I can get an open forum and discussion for military people to relate their stories. I know a few military people visit this thread often, and I would like them to join in, instead of this thread becoming "The Diesel7270 Show".
UPDATE: I should have a Wave Serpent pic to you in a day or two. It's pretty much done, except for sealing, and that's because I don't know if I want to stick with the decals that I have, or if I want to try again at painting that targeting reticule on the cockpit window. I "erased" my previous attempt because it just looked awful... it has to be very thin and even.
Additionally, I printed out some custom decals on Testor's decal sheets, and as soon as the decal touched water, the ink ran off in a pool. So, I'm trying to figure out how to solve that.

Also, I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm not saying I only want military to post on this thread, I just wanted to extend an invitation to them.

The speckling on the serpent turned out nicely, but those warlocks really take the cake! You did an excellent job with the green of the cloaks; it looks like they are ready to do battle on a sub-scorched field. The coloring/directional lighting/not sure what to call it but the highlights and dark portions of the green is just phenomenal. And the basing turned out quite nicely too. Keep it up! Sorry if I don't check dakka often, but I always enjoy your work.
