Endgame
1983 Italian Mad Max rip off with elements of The Running Man.
Tiny budget, lots of people scurrying about a presumably disused quarry. Fight scenes are quite good, but that’s about it. More or less enjoyable, but I won’t be watching it again.

Marvel in in-universe chronological order continues with Captain Marvel.
I really enjoy this one. It gets the 80’s/90’s feel, without beating you around the head with “Member Berries anymore than it needs to in order to set the scene.
Our cast are genuinely phenomenal. And the plot is interesting and well executed. And I consider it fairly original.
Though I did notice a scene where one of Jude Law’s contact lenses had slipped, which left him looking a wee bit Bozzeyed.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
And now? Iron Man which “stars” not one, but two, people that should probably be consigned to the, erm “super bouncy fun room” in those nifty “extra special fun jackets”.
Terrance “basic mathematics baffles me” Howerd, and Gwyneth “frankly worrying obsession with her lady garden” Paltrow.
It also relaunched Robert Downey Jr’s career, who managed to recover from being a loony, so more power to him.
A damned good film. And one about learning responsibility even though a story about being a tech billionaire that learns some form of humility has absolutely no relevance to the modern day, because no one that gains more wealth than anyone, however incompetent, could possibly spend in a human lifetime, is not going to embrace fascism just so someone doesn’t think they’re a right knob and also get some tax breaks into the bargain.

Ever seen two movies that were wedged into one film?
The Hugh Jackman film Death of Robin Hood is a high octane action flick in the beginning and then tries to become an introspective piece on violence, and if you are a bad person if you enjoy killing people.
Basically, the film is Robin Hood meets Logan.
If they had stuck with either approach it would have worked better...
Watch it when it's free.

The trailer for the Death of Robin Hood looked dire so I am happily avoiding it.

Skipped Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk, moved straight on to Avengers Assemble
OK, some of the dialogue is a wee bit naff. But I’d forgotten just how bloody enjoyable this movie is,

Finally saw Project Hail Mary.
I'm late to the party, but as a rule I tend to wait on stuff that's been wildly hyped, because I've been burnt a few times. This movie lived up to the hype.
Would've liked more Milana Vayntrub in it, but that's a criticism I have for all movies.

I found Disclosure Day to be a deeply silly, but heartfelt movie. The human drama was largely relatable, but interrupted in places by weak attempts at humor (particularly the scenes with Jackson, the reporter lady's layabout chud boyfriend). But the actual 'disclosure' of alien contact the plot centers around is very cartoonish in a setting otherwise meant to be realistic, with its evil mind-controlling corporate villain and little grey men straight out of the old, familiar conspiracy theories. The part where Nixon shows off the greys' corpses to some actor friend was particularly verisimilitude-stretching, in my opinion.
The film is also confused as to what feats of sufficiently advanced super-science the aliens are capable of, exactly. They crashed in Roswell and Pittsburgh, but the conversations between characters talk them up as 'actual supreme beings', some threat to world religions and the concept of God itself. Clearly, there's a disconnect between needing to have the recognizable grey aliens and wanting to tell a story about godlike aliens shaking the very foundations of settled human society.
Strongest of the main cast's performances was probably Colman Domingo's.
6/10

The Substitute
What a weird film.
Vietnam Vet impersonates a school sub to investigate his lass/friend being lightly tapped on the knee with a stick that busted up her knee cap.
And it’s marred by some really bad editing. Like some key frames were cut, and stop certain scenes making sense.
Main example? Hero has two drug dealers lying down on the floor. A character we met for a few seconds turns up and betrays hero for reasons, and tells the Hench guy to get up and kick the Hero’s head in. Says nowt to other guy.
Next we see Hench Guy is doubled over, and betrayer is declaring “none of that Ninja stuff”. Brief fight. Then betrayer shoots hench Guy. And we never see the other guy the Hero had lying down on the floor ever again.
It is fairly good fun though.

I remember that movie. it wasn't bad but I can't say I have watched more than twice.
And I believe there are one or two more in that franchise. I would expect each to be wore than the previous one.
I recall a like like perfection perceived is perfection achieved or some silliness like that.

I do want to see the sequels.
The DNA is there for a Playboy Centrefold of a movie. But due to the editing and assorted other incompetence? We instead get Tubbs Tatsyrup.
