Hey all,

Just interested in people's thoughts/experiences using Imperial Primer?

I've heard people complain about it in the past, and I think GW should make it really clear this needs stirring (as well as shaking) prior to use.

I think its ok but would be interested in what others think, and what other brush on primers people prefer?

I use it for the small models full of detail like infantry. Big smooth panels should get an even spray to avoid any brush strokes appearing and such. Blasted pots should be stored upside down to prevent paint drying and yes I always give all acrylic paints a prolonged vigorous shake when they sit around for any amount of appreciable time. Lahmian medium and water can be helpful with breaking down stubborn chunkiness.

It's a waste of money.

It's overpriced for what it is, it doesn't work well, it dries out faster than GW paint, it doesn't cover and it's a waste of time using.

I prefer Tamiya or Vallejo brushon.

Someone gave me one because they said it sucked and hated it.

Added some ball bearings to it and with a reasonable shake it's been helpful to touch up things or prime small models when the weather was garbage.

It works well enough for me.

I'd prefer spray primer any day of the week but at present I don't have access to any so it's exclusively Imperial Primer which I've had a couple of years and not used much before.

Seems to be doing the job just fine. Covered a usually finnicky Raging Heroes resin model just last week without issue.
