Yesterday I was talking to one my colleagues about how I play D&D most weeks and he reacted very positively. It turns out he used to play in his early teens (I guess he's in his 40s now) and he said he thought he still had some miniatures lying around somewhere. Sure enough, today I saw him again, this time with a metal tin. It was full of amazing old miniatures, including a dragon. What's even more amazing is the guy straight up gave them to me, saying he was happy just to have them be used again. My plan now is to photograph them all for you to get a better look at, and eventually get them all painted up! Between my 40k and other D&D projects it could take a while, but I felt like it was worthy of it's own project blog

What a great score!! I had some old cheap plastic knights, clerics, wizards, cavemen, etc. all painted up when I was young. I gave the box to my sons and I had great pleasure watching them play with my old minis with their friends.

I think this guy wanted to do the same, but give them to his nephew. He decided against it, as they're made of lead! I'll have to remember not to put my paintbrush in my mouth when I paint them

Here are some close ups of a few of my favourites. I also found one that had markings on the base. Ral Partha 1979!

Here are a few more minis. As you can see I've started painting them too. So far I've just got base layers and washes down. I think painting the detail will be challenging as there isn't a huge amount of detail there. It's probably a combination of the old casting processes and also just the age and degradation of the minis over time. I think using modern paints, washes, and scenics could make them look really good though

Nice selection of classic lead there. Always fun to see the old stuff get to see the light of day.
