Heyo,

I primarily play my Guard with a combination of Infantry Platoons, Artillery and Tanks. No allies, Storm troo- Militorum Tempestus etc.

Though I've been thoroughly enjoying playing Imperial Guard, my win-rate has been rather....low.

Is it even remotely viable to bring this type of Guard army to a semi-competitive match or not?

We mostly play with the ITC rules at my local club, so it's not 100% about objective markers, right?

IG are in a bad spot right now. All horde armies are. But the IG are heavily reliant on vehicles to boot, which are also in a bad place. If I were you I would take some vets in either a chimera or a valk to hope give you some mobility. Also some wyverns (best anti-infantry tank out there) You will still loose more often than not, but you will improve.

The best unit IG has, the Stormsword Super-Heavy Tank is unforunantely banned in ITC. Because those guys apparently love silly deathstars and jetbike spam. IG really need that tank to be competitve, but it's not allowed. It's really stupid I think.

Otherwise IG can do a really cheesy thing with the Earthshaker Batteries from Forge World. IG Orders specify that they target non-vehicle units, and that means they can target artillery. So you can get a battery of Earthshaker Cannons with Ignores Cover. That's preeeetty good.

Normal infantry/tank guard can do well in the hands of a skilled player too. I would recommend the tank formation, using two Punishers with heavy bolter sponsons as the Tank Commander, and then filling the rest with Exterminators and Executioners/Demolishers. Add Wyverns and footslogging infantry and an Aegis Defence Line and you could maybe do a bit better.

I find horde guard can be pretty strong just via having more models than the enemy can feasibly kill.

Guard on their own will always be weaker than guard with allies though.

Regarding the link the author is also a member on Dakkadakka - FatBoyNoSlim - https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/user/profile/65404.page

You can check out links to his various youtube videos and discussions from Guard members by looking at his profile and selecting the Threads Started for 40K Tactics in the Topic Posting Areas.

He likes gunlines of all infantry with Priests, but has made videos for other styles.

Cheers,

CB
