Edit: I could have sworn grenadiers and stormtroopers had a hellpistol/hotshot laspistol and a cqw weapon, my Death Krop 'nadiers sure have that sword-bayonet on them...
Edit 2: Well I only have the IA5 book for pricing (They're only 11 ppm  ) and well its wrong :/ so I've found something on another Dakka thread, hopefully the price is right now.

I don't have my Codex on hand, but if memory serves right, then 30" with that ammunition. They'd be Rapid Fire, though.
However, the price is wrong. A unit of 10 Sternguard would cost 250 points, even without upgrades.

It doesn't matter, his ap4 would have the same effect on you, with str4 vs T3, whereas you have str3 vs. T4.

True. Plus he'd have roughly the same number of models - for 175pts he can get 7 Sternguard vets, and I believe the preferential goal is to find a unit with an fewer, equal, or very slightly greater points value.
