Keep in mind that they are competing with my other armies; Space Wolves and Dark Angels. Chaos are cool and everything but maybe not cool enough to make up for the fact that they are worse than Space Wolves in every way. I don't care much for dinobots. The only things keeping me on board currently is Abaddon, Obliterators, and Spawn. Everything else is weaker and not different enough from it's equivalent in SW to be worth it. I've loved Chaos since the mid 90s so it's tough for me to quit them. Have a baby now and need to downsize.

You never know what will happen to each army when 8th drops. Chaos could even be decent!

They are infinitely more interesting than the sad fluff maddening crunch excelling Wolves. Wait for 8th. This is going to be one hell of a meta upheaval. More than ever buy and hobby based on what you like.

Then quit them if you need the spare money

Comparing a Top Tier Army with a Low Tier Army isn't gonna help you any...

You sound like you want a strong army not a fluffy one.. So just quit them.. or put them in storage until they are good again

You should quit. All the new books such ask Traitor Legion, black legion, crimson slaughter and KDK and RH etc... All rely on units and point costs and rules from the 2012 6th ed codex. GW has been putting bandages on CSM major flaws.

CSM doesnt have access to pre heresy weapons such as GRAV weaponry.

CSM doesnt get free transports in a formation. They do get free votlw which is just a bump in leadership and junk of they take a certain formation.

CSM dont get army wide atsknf. CSM doesnt get chapter tactics to turn the tide. They simply dont get a lot of stuff to be tourney winning.

40k 8th edition will drop soon, the AOS rules changed the game a lot and it's seeing a resurgence. Wait until the new rules drop then make up your mind.

well. CSM fluff is certainly the only reason I've stuck around.

Traitor Primarchs, and each individual Legions modus operand were what drew me into the 40k hobby in the beginning, and then just add in all the Chaos God fluff and daemons, and general Heavy Metal/Machine Gun/ Barbarian theme and you've got enough to talk about in just one faction of the game.

It also helps that my CSM army is the most completed.

I play csm because I hate myself and make it so much harder to win with a codex from 6th ed 2012.

Waiting until 8th is a good idea. I want an army that is both fluffy and good on the table. SW does that. But Chaos does have that "cool factor"

Do note there is no actual release time frame for 8th ed, and then it may be a little bit before there are 'good' rules for CSM

One benefit to playing Chaos is the freeness when building/painting them. No hard and fast rules. No codex astartes. You can freehand their legion symbol on roughly and it looks like it's supposed to be like that. Maybe I should quit SW lol.

It's decided. Bye bye SW. Have to go with my heart here. SW are cool and all, but I think Chaos is my one true love. Also, I sold nearly all of my SW last year and would be starting from scratch.

If you don't like them quit them. If you like them but hate their weak rules fig into the new released supplements.

Traitor Legions was such a great book for making the various factions come alive again. I liked that a lot. My Night Lords are rejuvenated and find their purpose returned to them: to swoop in danger close and give hugs to all the brave soldiers they encounter.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Night lords are my favorite legion and their rules are purely disappointing if you compare them to what other legions get. I'd rank them 2-d worst for the mono legion purposes after word bearers. That's mainly to do with uselessness of fear in current meta - the thing they focus on so much. However, they can be used as allies for your main force. Tzeench dp with a relic armor or a sorc or two and 2 raptor troops. Though, they are less ideal than iron warriors with their obliterator troops and an arguably better daemon prince with iwnd and 6+++ or Alpha legion with a mindveil character and infiltrating csm/chosen. Yep, you could probably run raptor talon + a spawn to get guaranteed night fight but than raptor talon is still pretty weak with no ds mitigation. NL relics are kinda fun though.

As for the strongest mono legions, those are easy: Deathguard and World Eaters. By far. Deathguard are just SO tough and relentless coupled up with extra durability does make even regular csm worthwhile. Not even talking about havoks, bikers and hq yet. World eaters have a significant speed bump and everything gets fearless + furious charge for cheapo. They're one of the best legions if you want to run termies. I've had success with a burning blood jugger lord + 10 footslogging termies, believe it or not. And their bikers, spawns and raptors are also good. Especially bikers. Spawns are just a bit tougher and cheaper but you would LOVE those 4 s9 power fist attacks. I stopped wasting points on shooty weapons for bikers. Power fists all the way. And fearless havoks are also neat.

I'm a bit disappointed with emp children as drugs are just too random and kinda force you in a biker-type gameplay cause they're the ones most likely to benefit from drugs. But noize marine formation is kinda nice in small ~750 pt level games. You can get 3 squads with shredding sonic blasters and a s5 ap3 shredding siren and probably a blastmaster, but i've found blastmasters to be a waste of points. Get in a biker/jp/steed lord with a s8 d6 shot relic, a fist+claw and a couple spawns and you'll have a decurion with free drugs. Your main problem will be tankhunting but otherwise you're good.

Iron warrior's decurion is goofy but they're best allies ever. Obliterator troops with free tankhunting and 6+++.

I would say, drop all your armies, get something which is not more space marines.

Other than that, just shelve it till eighth.

Um, Traitor Legions is a book now? A book that made even the most garbage units in the codex look at least mediocre (Well except maybe Possessed but you can't win them all).

My thoughts are with matt wrad back your chaos marines are still going to be playing twirling mustache villians to the space marysues... I mean space marines.

maybe 8th will change that tune but I doubt it, still probably worth waiting to see what it holds with a glimmer of hope but if I were a betting man...

It is not our job to convince you to keep them. It's yours to figure out what you want out of your armies. If you're trying to win tournaments right this moment and only want to keep 2 armies, of course you drop them. Then you cry when the meta shifts if they make a resurgence. Chasing the powerful army always results in tears at best as the game constantly changes. If you want something that you enjoy, then you need to figure out what you enjoy, why you enjoy it, and go from there.

100% this.

I love my orks more than any of my armies. they are fun, I get to talk in a bad british accent and have fun. They are not going to take a tournament outside of a countermeta list and every model in the codex is overcosted some by double. I still bring them to throw down some dice, enjoy a pop / brew and have a good time.

I don't understand why everyone is putting so much hope on the 8th edition. It will NOT make CSM stronger unless there is a new codex changing the points and formats.

It's already looking like we'll have a few changes that turn the meta on its head entirely, plus I thought we were expecting some kind of battlescroll deal for each unit pretty much on the day of release? Sounds like things will change quite a bit to me, no way of knowing how exactly until it comes out.

the hope is AOS style warscolls with updated rules and/or points costs for all so pretty much invalidating codexes beyond fluff and knowing GW probably some of the functionality of weapons will reference look in codex so you still have to buy it
