Now that 40K seems to be going the Age of Sigmar route are you going to use the same methond of using dice for wounds or is there another method of tracking wounds besides pen and paper? With how all the awesome bases and scenery coming out, it's a shame to ruin the image with dice besides all the minis. So is there a way I don't know about how to track the wounds on our minis now?

I just will not like the look of dice besides my Monstrous Creatures for Tyranids. I am trying to base my MC nids with Ripper wound counters but ran out of magnets now and having a hard time finding proper size magnets. So outside of dice or pen and paper how are we going to track our wounds?

Also if you are using dice how do you do it? I seen it two different ways. Some people use them as wounds done, others have wounds remaining. How do you do it and why?

I have little markers that I made up, laminated, and blue tacked to bases. I will just keep using those.

Maybe what someone else said, and laminating a sheet with my army list, with a box on the side to keep track

Litko makes wound counters in 15, 20, and 30 wound increments. I'll probably get some of those.

Here's a link if anyone is interested.

I use elastic hair bands; they hang off models and move when you move the models.

Ididnt need to think about it before, but maybe now Ill color code them like poker chips.

When I played my Wych cult army in 5th ed, to keep track of the Power from Pain count for each squad, I used small skulls that had holes drilled vertically thru them. I modeled spikes on my bases that these would fit over. I was considering doing the same now. It may not work for higher wound count models though, now that I actually think about it...

I just use a sheet of paper if I need to and write it down. It isn't that hard.

I have little flat markers from Fantasy Flight that cost about $5 for 20. They stack up nicely and rest on top of Rhinos, etc.

Currently I just put one blue marker on the model for every wound or hull point lost. I'll do the same in 8th, but I'll probably get some red markers to count as 5 wound apiece.

I have markers for other in-game effects like vehicle damage results, pinning, and psychic powers, and those are also blue and red so they all mix together nicely.

I'll likely use the same method I do now - whiteboard markers on stat cards that have wounds marked out as empty circles. Though for multi-wound non-Character infantry, I just use dice to represent how many wounds they've taken.

However, if Greater Daemons go up to ten or more wounds, then I'll have to be a bit more clever about how to represent their wounds on their cards [or make bigger cards].

[I can't imagine Daemon Princes going that high, wound-wise.]

D12. I won't be as tempted to accidentally pick them up from the table. Or wait for someone clever to market something specific for 40K.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

With how the War Scrolls work, I am just planning on printing one sheet for each I field and use Dry Erase or Grease Pencils after Laminating them. (I am planning on doing this for my whole army)

Kinkos will let you use their Laminator if you supply your own plastic which are not that expensive.

I liked the old Epic titan bases with the built in dial for void shields. something like that would be pretty nice to come back as a 'thing', especially for larger models but even a 32mm base should be able to have a dial in it that can show a few wounds

These look great, thank you for the link. I may get several of their various markers depending on what the new edition requires.

I just went to a warmachine card generator and threw this together in 10 minutes.

I just made up a bunch of numbers. I've got no idea if melee weapons are going to have a range like in AoS. Also there wasn't room for the attack stat on the models statline, so I dumped it on the weapon.
Without too much more work I could print that out, laminate it, and track the damage on the boxes along the bottom using white board marker.

Here's the generator I used in case anyone is interested. Just found it on a google search.

I drill holes in my models during the games to represent the wounds they have taken. So I'm constantly replacing dead models. Helps me remember the true cost of war.

I'm a treadhead so bases aren't really significant, but magnetising bases and using skulls/debris/magnetic bits from the box would work.

My tanks are big enough so that a dice on their back doesn't really change their aesthetic too much.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

If GW were smart they would make an app where you could build your list and track rolls and wounds. They could charge for each formation or codex.

But alas, the laminated unit cards sound like a pretty good idea.

Psh. Real players melt their models when they get killed by flame related attacks and as for explosions? that's what m80s are for.

A white board.
When unavailable, paper and pencil, d4/8/12/20s,
though dice are touchy especially d20s as they turn so easily.

Paper and pencil like the Fighting Fantasy books although I might upgrade to white board pen and laminated paper for re-usability, there was only so many times you could rub out before the paper would get too thin.

I'd prefer to use something like D20 over paper n pencil, mainly so it's a number that can't be hidden from the opponent, or have them asking repeatedly how many wounds that tank still has. Keeping the information on the table where it's supposed to be, on/by the model is much more straightforward, takes less time, and causes fewer issues.

Pen and paper with the gate counter method to keep track.

For those that don't know, you put a single | counting as one, up to 4 in a row

||||

the 4th is a horizontal or diagonal line through the 4, then start over. Very easy to keep track by simple counting a block as 5 then counting individuals. No rubbing out, nothing more than a pen/pencil and a surface to write on.

probably green stuff a small mound onto MC that include space for 2 to sit on the base. for most infantry I doubt they get multiple wounds but for those that do like HQ and such I have standard bases with green stuff dice holders already they move wound counter just moves with them. terminators and custodes if both still 2 wounds will likely just get some model thing to indicate a wound lost. maybe a piece on the base rmoved with a wound like painted and modeled like an ammo can or first aid kit, if custodes get 3 wounds then both
