So as the title hints, I washed a layer with Nuln Oil as I have done about 1000 times before but this time it dried like a gloss varnish. Anyone have any ideas what happened?

Is it the nuln oil gloss? They released one of those.

yeah there's two now... you probably got the glossy one :(

but if you do a matte on top, it'll probably cut down the gloss

Nope, it's a normal bottle that I've used about half of without issue. Weird

Not uncommon, if you don't shake the hell out of it a basic bottle going gloss like that.

The washes have a matting agent in them that needs to be re-dissolved once in a while. Like Sauragnmon said, a really good long shake is all it needs.
