The Atserian / FF cover does look tasty.

I'm more interested in what appears to be "CONTAGION" below it; hopefully the zombie campaign

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

This one? Yes it does look quite cool!

Would be interested to know what artists Mantic have got working for them (although this looks similar to the 'Fate of the Forgestar' cover style?)

That's the one. I really like the visual theme they're going for with DZ. These books look just awesome.

Are the compendiu(s) (you know what I mean) included in the next wave? I've forgotten.

Were those the hardcovers we were supposed to get?

There's still only the one (and only?) wave coming, right?

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Originaly there was one hard back compendium, but they ended up with too much stuff to have in one book, so broke it into....3? Maybe two, books.

I'd assume it's coming with the second wave, but I see so much info I'm not sure what's what these days.

Just curious - if WarPath slipped back another year, what do you think are the chances that someone else will come along with a hard plastic Sci Fi game and steal Mantic's thunder?

Obviously WarPrime is currently on the horizon, but regardless of whether or not that campaign succeeds, there are bound to be other KS attempts to become the #1 hard plastic, cheaper alternative to 40K sooner or later. It would be expensive to start, but the market for it could be very successful if it's done well since the market leader overcharges for their products, leaving plenty of room for undercutting.

Even a highly successful alternate sci-fi HIPS campaign wouldn't doom WarPath's success, of course. But it could eat into it quite a bit.

I'm wondering how much longer Mantic can afford to delay launching their WarPath KS.

We have no idea how good the rules are, but Dreamforge is working on a sci-fi rules set to go with their fluff, probably to launch with the alien range which will start being developed after wave 3 of the Eisenkern ships later this year.

I think Mantic has some more time - but maybe less than they thought previously?

Given Dreamforge's pace, I can't see that game being up and running and a viable system for another 2 or 3 years.

Warprime? More of an unknown, but again, a good 2 years away from showing up on the radar...

Oh yeah - I forgot about Dreamforge. I'm not into the style of their human faction, but I'll be very interested when they launch their alien line.

Quick update on the Mars Attacks KS, the retro US soldiers are being replaced with Warlord plastics, due to almost no-one adding them in the survey.

Sometimes the most vocal people are not in the majority, or do not back up their requests with hard cash.

I think this is the case with Mars Attacks, I recall seeing a lot of "well this sucks no retro soldiers" comments about it, but when retro soldiers were added in response to the feedback those same people didn't go for them.

In a similar fashion, the dead figures were extremely unpopular in the KS comments ("waste of a stretch goal" etc.) and elsewhere, but were the #1 most popular add-on in the survey.

Kinda frustrating since it shows how unreliable internet feedback can be.

Having read the update it seems like a very reasonable, and well thought out, course of action to me.

Good point on the internet feedback too, I followed the campaign but did not back it and it seemed like "retro" soldiers were an important thing to a lot of backers, but I guess not.

Have just seen the previous update too, I can see why the card art has had a lot of detractors but like everything it is a personal taste thing.

This looks like being a massive release for Mantic.

I added retro soldiers to my survey and didn't ask for them during the campaign!

I also still don't have my invoice.

Edit: Actually, the retro soldiers thing might make sense - last communication I got was an email saying "we're just waiting on a little information on one of the sets you've ordered" before sending me my invoice, maybe the issue will be resolved now that they dumped them for Warlord plastics?

If it makes you feel any better, I ordered exactly as many of those two things as I said I would during the campaign (that being none at all).

I wish Mantic had pushed hard on the 7ed 40k launch with WP 2.0 and developed lists for most 40k armies (undroid, plague enforcers, etc).
It's a solid rule set and it could have provided 6th ed 40k refugees with an alternative.
2.0 is also close enough to recent 40k editions that porting would have been easier for players.

To be fair, a 2015 Kickstarter will see it compete with 8ed 40K.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

That's only if 8th edition includes movement trays, unfortunately.

I reccomend salsa with that chip.

Anyone read the mars attacks update? Sounds like more frequent updates inbound and potentially the chance to grab your stuff in person at gencon.

They're exactly the sort of thing that I wouldn't have ordered because Warlord/WGF plastics already exist.

So it's been confirmed somewhere that Warpath uses movement trays, or...?

It has been suggested that they are a thing and are being considered, I believe. Nothing so much as set in stone, if the 3.0 rules come out sooner or later it's possible they might be in there, but I think the next rules release/update is more like an open beta. A couple of our better news sources could probably tell it better, I'm just running off of shaky memory here.

it depends on whether they want to hit that 40k market hard or not...

The movement tray idea is horrible imho, such a bad way to turn off potential 40k players. The 2.0 rules aren't a bad set but need some work.

plus unfortunately before people say it, yes this should appeal to 40k players as an alternative just as kow has done for wfb.

The thread about movement trays on the Mantic forums seems split 50/50, which surprises me, as I would have thought not that many people would be in favour. But then again, maybe that's because I don't like the idea.

However, the original rules, and I'm pretty certain the v2.0 rules too, could use movement trays easily. Cover was counted for a unit as a whole not individual models, and blast templates weren't used.

But for me, the whole idea of a lose squad formation in modern and SF games demands the movement of individual models. But I'll accept taht's very much my view.

Not a fan of movement trays either.

Then again I prefer small count games, and dread the thought of having to paint everything that would have to fit into that movement tray.

Because any game that needs movement trays, you know you're going to have more than one in use...

It is also my view
I want there to be fewer things for folks to point to that prevent them from playing the game (don't want to make trays; buy trays; and/or the look of them on the table they'll say).

I'm indifferent. Probably lean towards no just cause I'm sure there are more 40k players around than not.

I agree, no movement trays. Really not a fan in scifi but then I like skirmish rather than large scale anyway... Maybe I should just stick to deadzone!
