Right now I'm trying to sort out if tau fire warrior spam is any good. Im considering running about 100 or so in one list, all in groups of five, with 50 pathfinders (3 rail rifles in each group of ten) some 30 kroot to deny deep striking close, and commander with 4 fusion, and some 3 fireblades.
Would this be nasty to play against, or just get mopped up?

I'd say you'll just get eaten alive. S5 is cool, but if your opponent just has to beat up your Pathfinders to get rid of all your weapons with any AP you won't have a prayer of stopping anything actually durable before it gets to you, and if you want to dump twenty five-man Fire Warrior units on the table you've got no hope of going first.
Fire Warriors are useful, but they're not your one-stop solution to everything.

For 63pts you can get a 5 man team with a smart missile turret, take 3-5 and a cadre fireblade. Support fire makes them brutal if you deploy them all within range of each other and the fireblade.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did. |

Fire Warriors are good
Use the rest of your points to get Anti Tank like Railsides or Longrails or Monat CIB or Monat MP
Remember
100 Firewarriors is only 800 points, You still have half your list.

I haven't spent that much time looking at the Tau index yet but:
1) S5 is not that great anymore. Now you're just firing a bolter against T3 infantry and against most monsters and light vehicles.
2) Infantry in general is pretty efficient now, though. Very little is going to be able to cost-efficiently kill your Fire Warriors.
3) I hadn't looked at Pathfinder teams before; they seem great. Since standard Pathfinders are basically just Fire Warriors with Markerlights you might not want to take 3 rifles in each squad -- just shift some Fire Warriors to your Pathfinder squads so you have more ablative wounds. I'd definitely consider a couple pulse accelerator drones if you're doing a gunline. They synergize with the Fireblades too, though sadly the Fireblades' buff doesn't apply to whole units.
