Hello there =)

I recently finished the Dark Imperium Primaris Marines. I LOVE the Mk X Tacticus armor. Not so sold on the Gravis armor though, albeit the Inceptors look awesome on the battlefield due to their jetpacks.

Do you like them?

Just beautiful. Are they transfers on the shoulders? If so, where did you get the tactical markings?

Very nice!

However, it is almost a crime to post pictures of such nice miniatures with such gorgeous color without telling us how you did it and what paints you used. Please tell us more.

Well, then i will make amends and tell you everything.

The red is a transparent red varnish called "Tamiya clear red". To get this red metallic look, you have to paint a metal color including shades and highlights and then glosscoat it with the red.

In my case, i painted the whole miniatures with leadbelcher, shaded with nuln oil, drybrushed leadbelcher and stormhost silver. Then i painted all the details. Gold is Scycorax bronze, Agrax Earthshade, drybrush Stormhost Silver, cream color is Rakarth Flesh, Screaming Skull and Seraphim Sepia recess shade with an additional edge highlight of Pallid Wych Flesh on the helmets, black is Vallejo Black Metal. All the metallic parts were done with the first step like the bolter, Swordblade etc.

Lastly i painted the tamiya clear red over the armor. This was hell and lasted me for nearly 45 minutes per model, since not only do you have to paint around all the details. The color has a honey consistence and you have to put it on fairly thick, it dries quite fast to a gel which you can easily pull off again with your brush, so no brushing again on the same spot. Brushes clump up and you have to wash the brush thoroughly every 2 minutes at least etc...If you would like to thin the color, you need an airbrush thinner of sorts, water wont work.

You COULD paint on the red before you start the details, but every mistake you make afterwards stains the red and ant be easily fixed. And every detail you accidentially paint red is hard to cover since the color is fairly thick.

All in all, i listened to four horus heresy audiobooks while painting those dudes

This. The red is absolutely gorgeous, so deep. It looks like a Humbrol/Vallejo metallic red, but I reckon it could be done with the tint GW paints.

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

Looks like they stole some candy apple red from a bunch of muscle car restorerers. I love it.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

Sublime paintwork. I'm not normally enthusiastic about metallic paint like that - but the quality of the paintjob and the fantastic off-set of the creme and muted other colours works a treat.

Most importantly - love seeing a complete, finished, matching army - a sight which is all too rare in the Warhammer community.

Thank you, and have and Exalt for your troubles.

I've used old Citadel Inks before to similar effects, though not as vibrant. Back in the day I painted a few Sisters of Battle similarly, though that was just red ink over red paint, very glossy but without the metallic sheen. Maybe if GW ever gets off its butt and makes plastic Sisters I'll get a chance to try this.

Unfortunate to hear that your method is a PITA to work with, but it's hard to argue with the fantastic results.

They look awesome! Normally I'm not a huge fan of metallic-looking Marines, but you've done so well on these that I can't really nitpick at all! Are you planning on expanding the collection with the upcoming new Primaris models?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
