SAGA 2 Release Announcement

SAGA 2 due to be released for shipping on the 12th of February. (Available HERE)

SAGA 2 Rulebook Description:
Spoiler:
Every age has its heroes. Singular men, whose prowess and virtue have raised them above mere mortals, and who have forged their own fates through their determination, courage and strength. Their names have survived the passge of time: King Arthur, William the Conqueror, Achilles, Conan.

Whether they were birn in popular legend, the fertile minds of writers or the annals of history, they live forever in our collective memory as the most celebrated figures of ages past.

However, for each surviving legend. there exist innumerable others still waiting to be written. THousands of heroes wait to prove themselves on the battlefields, to speak with fire and steel, and to carve their mark on the world around them. With the book in your hands, you have the unique opportunity to take part in the creation of these legends and to see them master their destinies in turn.

Your SAGA begins here..........

SAGA is a skirmish game taking place in the heroic ages, whether they are historical, mythological or sprung from the minds of writers. It brings to life the battles between exceptional warriors - Warlords, who defy their enemies on the battlefieds at the head of their warband.

This game puts you at the head of one such warband, made of thirty or so figures, and lead by your heroic alter-ego. Each warband is chosen from among the available SAGA factions and has a specific Battle Board and SAGA dice which grant them particular abilities in battle and reinforce their identity.

This book contains SAGA's simple and innovative basic rules. They are easy to learn and illustrated with numerous examples. they apply to all the universes you might explore. These rules are the fruit of years of development snf the contributions of a large community that plays SAGA around the globe.

Once you have read this book, all that is left for you to do is choose a SAGA Universe from the array available, assemble your figures and write your legend!

SAGA 2 Supplement 1: Vikings Age Description (Available HERE)
Spoiler:
793...The peaceful monastery of Lindisfarne is attacked and pillaged by men who rise out of the mists, cleaving the waves in ppowerful ships.

This attack marks the beginning of the story of the Vikings, also known as the Northmen, Sea Wolves and Scourge of the Faithful. For the next three centuries, every coast and every city will live in fear of these warriors and their unequalled savagery.

Soon, the Norsemen will no longer be satisfied with looting, theft and pillaging. the armies of the powerful Scandinavian kingdoms will come together in fleets to descend upon Europe, conquering countries, ransoming kings and emperors and founding colonies.

Age of Vikings is a SAGA supplement covering Europe from the emergence of the Norse kingdoms to the Battle of Hastings which marked the end of the era.

This Universe offers you 12 factions covering all four corners of Europ during this period, each with its own Battle Board, history, legendary units and special rules.

This book also contains rules for mercenary units which can be recruited by your warbands and an appendix on Relics & Artifacts from this heroic age.

Relive the exploits of heroes liek Harald Hardrada, William the Conqueror or Charlemagne! The greatest sagas were written by the Viking poets - can you surpass them?

This book comes with 12 Battle Boards which may not be sold separately.

You will need a copy of the SAGA Rulebook to use this supplement,

SAGA 2 Supplement 2: Crusades Age Description (Available HERE)
Spoiler:
Deus vult!
At the dawn of the thirteenth century, these words set Europe aflame.
The hearts of nobles and serfs alike are filled with an ardent desire to absolve their sins by taking up arms against the enemies of the faith.
In 1095, the princes of the west answer the Pope's call, take the cross, and travel to Jerusalem to liberate the Holy City from the hands of the infidels.
In 1147, the same call goes out again, and turns the might of Christendom against the Baltic shores where Europe's last pagans thrive.
On the Iberian peninsula, Spanish lords resume their attempts to reconquer the lands the Moors have ruled since 711.
For more than two centuries, these unprecedented military expeditions will see kingdoms and cultures rise and fall. Great champions will lead their nations through heroic battles whose consiquences will be felt for decades.

SAGA Age of Crusades is a SAGA Supplement which covers the wars of faith fought in the West and the East from the First Crusade to the Mongol invasions.
This Universe offers 12 factions covering every arena of battle, each one with its own Battle Board, legendary unit, heroes and special rules.
The book also contains auxiliary units to recruit, and a variant on the standard game which transforms your game into a battle of faith!

Follow in the wake of Godfrey of Bouillon, join the ranks of the Teutonic Order, fight alongside Saladin or resist with the Baltic tribes. Do not weaken for the valian will survive and win eternity in heaven!

Q&A from Gripping Beast:

Norse Gaels
Irish
Pagan Rus
Scots
Carolingians
Jomsvikings

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This isn't so much a rumor as Andy from Gripping Beast confirmed some questions I had with regards to new model kit releases.

Information is as follows:

Unarmored Goth / Dark Age Plastic Cavalry is due to be released late-Autumn this year (Now Available HERE)
Armored Roman / Goth Cavalry Plastic Cavalry is due to be released Spring next year (Now Available ROMAN HERE) and GOTH HERE
Unarmored Late Roman Plastic Cavalry, including archers (His words, not mine - Late Roman cavalry including cavalry archers? Sounds pretty cool if so!) due for release Summer next year

Finally of note "There are plans for a couple of infantry boxes next year too but these are Top Secret!"

Personal thoughts on the last bit are towards plastic Crusaders, Goths or Byzantines, but that's just me speculating!

Either way, I'm pretty excited as my next aim is to expand my Romans with a cavalry force (specifically plastic) as well as kit-bash a plastic Hunnic army.

Regards,

Wulfmar

A bit of threadomancy to save multiple topic posts for this. I posted a while back with information on releases for SAGA (and your general historical model needs).

Saga has potential for non historical work: Arthur, Beowulf, Conan, Jason and the Argonauts, and others (I fully plan to adapt it for use to represent: Peloponnesian War, the Iliad, and Jason/Argonauts as an example).

I just hope those are add-on rules and do not dillute the core mechanics with Fireballs and magic missiles.

En Garde! set a good example based on Ronin. You can setup for Conan if you want, or anything similar, but they are small add-ons and suggestions with the core game being more 'historical' (albeit slightly Hollywood).

If I recall correctly from my emailing, there is the intention to release a supplement for Asia (Shogunate Japan etc) and Classical Europe (Greeks, Romans, Catthaginians etc). I also recall a supplement mentioned that focuses more on the fancifull side of things with heroes such as Beowulf (and now Conan apparently).

My own musings which could, theoretically be prescient... GB stated in an email to me they have some 'Top Secret' infantry boxes being released at some point. These could easily be plastic Goths or some-such as it fills a niche currently filled only with some metals. Could these kits instead be plastic Asian warriors (currently only provided by Warlords recently aquired kits seen in test of honor). I don't expect they will be classical infantry as Warlord and Victrix between them seem to have covered everything. I don't know, either way I'm excited!

Does anyone know if the new edition is going to be sold via gaming stores?

Have only seen it direct so far, but would prefer to buy it locally if possible.

Pre-ordered mine from Brigade Games in the US. They are an online store but if they can get it your FLGS should be able to.

The Heavy Cav look pretty good. I have the light cav, and have converted a couple to be Norman Pueri/Light Cav for Saga.

I think I like them better than their Saxon Thegns. Those aren't bad, just the light cav seem to be nicer all round figures.

If you are looking for plastic crusaders, try Fireforge or the Conquest Games Medieval Knights box. I plan to use the Conquest Games pieces as mounted Sergeants for my Templars. The horses are unbarded, which matches the Perry figs I have for my milites, and there are enough open face helms to portray the 'enlisted' men.

I personally don't have an exact answer for this which is a shame as I'm desperate for some of the other period books. Based on what I know though, I can give a reasoned-out answer:

Book of Battles Scenario Book (Confirmed)
Age of Mythical Battles (Not Confirmed but rumoured. Studio Tomahawk appear to communicate with Gripping Beast who prepare related sets for sale on or near release. GB are currently working on Arthurian Infantry which may be related to the Mythical Battles book release)
Age of Classical Battles (Punic Wars? For the same reason above, GB already have a large line of Successor forces - they don't appear to stock earlier Romans or Carthaginians however. Given the time scale, we may see these kits?)
Age of Samurai Battles

What I've just written above is just postulation though which I can't back up.
