I've seen a handful of threads and articles in various places on the Internet where people are saying that they expect the plastic inceptor stands not to hold up. I've seen articles and videos showing how people have used alternate stands because they're sure the ones in the box will break or fall off.

I haven't actually found much where anyone actually had any real problems with the stands (outside of getting them glued on). I just started putting my first inceptor squad together. Is this really an issue, or is is just something that people believe will be an issue based on previous releases or experiences?

Classically, all of the small flying stands break (gun drones, jetbikes ect.) because they are quite thin, are cast from a less-flexible plastic and only have one point of contact.
From experience, the larger the model on the top of the stand, the more likely they are to break, especially if not stored properly.
Note that the break can happen at either end of the stick.
Once they've broken, its a nightmare to replace the stand as it needs drilling out or pinning back to the base.

The new interceptor stands look to be thicker and curved, this might make them less likely to break.
I would still expect them to break if stored badly, or if dropped, but they should otherwise be fine.

The articles are probably people jumping to a conclusion without actually trying out the newer stand design.

That's what I suspect because everything I've read is from people who either haven't built them yet, or decided to use different stands without even trying the new ones, but nothing where anyone actually had problems with them after building them. I'll be gluing mine tonight, so I'll see how they hold up.

Yeah they're a pain, trying to stick them to the model is horrendous. I was tempted to try and model them to be standing on foot.

I hate the name on my profile, I made it when I was twelve and regret it now.

I don't think durability is an issue, but my God getting those guys on the stands in the first place was like pulling teeth!

Try moistening the stand and put super glue on the miniature. Works like a charm. In some cases, use blu tack to help support the miniature when glueing.

Pain in the ass. Only Primaris models I never bring because they always, ALWAYS break in transit.

I had absolutely no problem. Dry fit the stand so that you understand how it attacks. It's actually a half circle that fits around a small cylinder on the back of the model. Once you get the connection point, use super glue and hold it in place while you count to 30 or so. Should be a nice solid connection point. Mine get transported pretty roughly and have yet to break.

I used Loctite Professional super glue for the plastic stand. After letting it sit overnight, it seems to be very sturdy. The thin-ness of the stand where it contacts the model makes it seem slightly wobbly if I gently test its strength, but it doesn't feel in any way like it will come off. Here's hoping it stays on well. If not, I'll use an alternate stand like others have suggested, but so far, the new curved stand seems fine.

So I thought I'd give an update on this. While I did think the plastic stands seemed to be tough to get on at first, mine are holding up really well and feel really solid.

For each inceptor, I put a wet paper towel on the part of the jetpack where the stand connects to it to add moisture to help activate the super glue. Then after putting a drop of glue on the stand, I sprinkled a little bit of baking soda over the super glue. I attached that to the model, and between the baking soda and moisture helping with activation and bonding, the bond has been very strong, and I'm not worried about the contact surfaces being too small.

They really should have ended in a ball like the regular flying stands (the ones from hove bikes and the like). Having to glue them forever and ever is a PITA to transport and is asking for trouble.

The old flyer bases used to snap because...

1. Clear plastic is more brittle

2. The "stick" part narrows suddenly where it needs to be inserted in to the base or model. That point where it narrows creates a massive stress concentration. It makes the stick even weaker than a thinner stick that remained the same diameter. If you glued the model firmly to the stick and the stick to the base it'd reduce the stress concentration (but not eliminate it, because there's still a sudden change in cross section) but then the models are permenantly attached and harder to transport.
