Subject: What are the most and least efficient 40K kits in terms of Dollars to Points ratio?

Tough Tyrant Guard

I was flipping through the online catalogue at GW to complete my Chaos army, when I noticed just how expensive the Chaos Spawn kit was. For $41 USD, you basically got two 33 point models, which seemed like a lot of dollars for not a lot of models on the board (though granted the spawn models look pretty cool and it'd be a great painting and modelling project).
$41 to 66 points of models = 1.6 (for every $1 you spent on this kit, you got 1.6 points worth of models)
Curious, I decided to do a few more calculations for Chaos ...
Favoured of Chaos Box Set (15x Possessed and 1 Daemon Prince)
$105 to approx. 510 points of models = 4.9
Chaos Terminators
$50 to approx. 200 points of models = 4.0
Chaos Rhino
$39 to approx. 72 points of models = 1.85
So my question to Dakka is what are the most efficient and least efficient kits in terms of Dollars to Points? I'm imagining the "Get Started" boxes have amazing value, but I'm curious as to what kits do not. Also, I'm wondering if there is a "GW Average", or a normal range of pricing ratio, where $1 should get you between x points and y points of models and anything below x is inefficient purchasing and anything above y is efficient purchasing.
Thanks!

Genestealer Cult models, assuming you don't find them as sell-offs on eBay, surely? Outside of allying with guard, this must be one of the most insanely expensive armies to build - at least Sisters of Battle models are worth decent points.

The Baneblade - $140 for ~700 points of models (kitted out). I think that's exactly 5 points per dollar.

Least efficient - 7th Edition Sydonian Dragoon. $50 for a 45 pt model.
Most efficient - Pass, I'm not entirely sure. Maybe Kastelans?
|
Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

I got one better, SoB repressor 90pts per model; 250$ if you can find it 90$ to convert one with shapeway parts and a rhino.

I think the worst dollar to points ratio would be using any of the metal guard models (like Steel Legion) as Conscripts.
Best will vary wildly depending on if you mean building the kit as-is or if you intend on using it to convert something, as well as discounts. The Burning Chariot kit can get you a herald on Disc, 2 Screamers, 3 Blue Horrors, an exalted Flamer, and an additional Disc to upgrade another character. On top of that you can get it as part of the Start Collecting! discount box. And that's just the generic conversion; I can make three Daemon Princes and 10 Deathcult Assassins from the Daughters of Khaine bundle on the AoS site.

Most efficient is also dependent on if you will actually use said unit.
Ork Nobz for instance can I think make an approximately 300 point unit for a $25 kit. It just isn't a very good use of point to outfit them that way. Which is 12 points per dollar.
Least efficient probably some finecast miniature set somewhere.

Best is a stompa. I don't think many things beat 8.5pts per dollar, unless you're maxing out upgrades.

One of the worst points per dollar is still Ork Mek Gunz, at $46 for 40-57 points worth of models (depending on whether you use the Kustom Mega-kannon, Traktor Cannon, Bubblechukka, or Smasha Gun). Better than they were in 7th, but still bad. Big Gunz are right there with them as far as money to points ratio. Tau Broadsides were bad points per dollar in 7th, but now they are pretty great really.
If you're purely looking a ratios, the Ork Stompa is a bargain. $150 or so for 900+ points of model. Of course that's because Stompas are ridiculously overcosted, but at least you get your money's worth of points!

Forge World is sort of in a league of its own on this one; Elysian snipers are around $40 US for 21pts of models. As for most efficient HQs used to win that handily back when they were $12-15/model, not sure now that they're $30-40/model. As far as most efficient goes around 4pts/dollar seems normal, and I haven't found any normal kits past about 6.5pts/dollar (specifically 6.4 for Grey Knight Paladins and 6.7 for Deathwatch Veterans playing a bit loose with WYSIWYG); roll Start Collecting into the mix, though, and I think the crown goes to the Deathwatch Start Collecting box at 9.7pts/dollar.
(Started checking for most efficient Forge World stuff out of curiosity; best I've got so far is a starcannon Wasp at 3.6pts/dollar and a relic Contemptor with plasma-chainfist melee arms at 3.7pts/dollar. For the curious Titans seem to be somewhere between 1.5 and 2.5pts/dollar.)

Broadsides aren't great. They're just as much shooting as before and roughly as tough, but cost 4-5 times the points. It's like saying a boy that costs 25 points would be more points per dollar. It's true, but those points aren't efficient

Yeah, I bought a box of deathwatch overkill NIB for 80€ and I was planning of starting a Genestealer Cult army, but after I saw the €-point ratio of the normal kits? I'm sorry but that isn't worht it for me. A shame because they are really lovely models.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.
