Painting up the Primaris as Sons of Horus

So I managed to get a metalic paint for cheap that matches the sons of Horus color perfectly. Not wanting to jump down the rabbit hole that is 30k (considering the cost is exponential even by 40k standards) I was thinking of painting up my demi-company of Primaris Marines in Sons of Horus colors.

Thing is, how many people are going to get their jimmies rustled by the appearance of a Sons of Horus Primaris Chapter? I really like the color scheme but calling it by a different name seems to be rather useless; people are going to see it as Sons of Horus.

Very few, probably. Paint your minies how you want, your army your colors, spend your money how you like etc. etc

I personally wouldn't care for it in the same vein that I wouldn't care for a 30k army painted like Novamarines or WW2 German Army painted in digital camo. I wouldn't "get my jimmies rustled" but I wouldn't appreciate it as much as an army painted in more lore accurate colors with the same skill level. If that would help you gauge other's reactions.

Theres nothing wrong with using the colors, lots of Chapters share colors. Just call them something different, because then there is no "Not Accurate" argument. They are your dudes in a color you like. Its your chapter then, and the colors are accurate for them.

Not a single person in their right mind is going to start ranting about that stuff. Plus, call them Remnants of Horus The Betrayer and say they're a small cadre that believe their geneseed is from those that were left behind as they didn't turn, of the sons of Horus. Whether they are right or not or if that's plausible is completely irrelevant. They believe they are and they've painted their armour in the legacy colours as a show of defiance.

It's a lot more likely if you're going the "loyalist Sons of Horus" route that they'd have gone back to the Luna Wolves name/icon (since the Sons of Horus icon is the Black Legion eye), but if you did Luna Wolves in that metallic green I wouldn't bat an eyelash.

Maybe I should name them the "Terra Hounds" as opposed to Luna Wolves and say they were a batch of Primaris Marines made with traitor geneseed (because Cawl) of the Luna Wolves.

Personally, if someone told me "I've painted my primaris marines to be Sons of Horus, from before the Horus Heresy" I'd be like "cool, how many points?"
Is this actually something that bothers people?

That works pretty well, yeah. I'm sure that sort of thing is pretty much canon anyway with how much of a not-heretek Cawl is.
