Hi Dakkadakka,

You're my only hope! A few years ago I bought a variety pack of neodymium magnets that included a range of sizes, all the typical sizes you'd use for magnetizing both infantry and vehicles.

I would like to buy the exact same pack from the same company again, but I can't remember what company made them, and can't track them down in any of my purchasing history. Why don't I just buy magnets from a different company? It just so happens this brand of magnets came packed in a blister pack with a clear plastic elongated dome that has a shape I just love, and used as a mold to make a custom model. I'd love to get another plastic blister of that exact same shape to use on a new model and also need more magnets so if I could just remember the brand I'd be all set.

As best as I can remember, the magnets came in a blister pack with a fairly large blue cardboard backing, and the elongated plastic bubble dome containing the magnets was on the bottom right (or just right?) side of the cardboard. The bubble is definitely an oval, not an ellipse, with a half-spheres at either end. I'm attaching a sketch what the package looked like, at least based on my vague memories.

I hope this rings a bell for somebody. Thanks!

Thanks you! That's it! I knew the dakkkadakka hivemind could help.

Very interesting seeing my memory vs the real thing ... somehow the gradient on the cardboard didn't register.

I would suggest also looking a K&J magnetics - they have a great assortment and decent prices - so you can get the exact size magnets you want.

I was looking at them (and some others) but wasn't really able to get exactly what I needed.

I looked over at the B&C Tutorial for magnetizing stuff but wasn't able to get a match for the 2mm x 1mm and 6mm x 2mm sizes.

I managed to get 3mm x 1.5mm close enough with the 1/8" x 1/16".

Closest I found for the 2mm x 1mm was 1/16" x 1/32" - smaller in both dimensions.

Best match for the 6mm x 2mm was the 1/4" x 1/8", which is larger in both dimensions.

Now the size differences aren't huge, but does anyone with experience know if this will be just large enough to not fit (or in the case of the tiny ones, too small to hold)?

I found a place in the UK - Guy's Magnets - that has all the exact sizes AND strength (N52), but the ship-over time on that is probably 2+ weeks. A handful of other US vendors either didn't have the right sizes and/or didn't have the size in question in the right strength (N35 seemed most common - too weak, evidently).

Advice for those of us over in the States?

M.
