I am comunf back to 40k, no models what so ever, so figured I could do whatever and have narrowed down my army choices to 3,
Necrons because of their simple paint scheme, being the oldest army, and being able to come back to life.

Orkz. Because, who doesn't like Orkz, they can play different ways, and are to fungus of the universe

Lastly, spacemarines, simple paint scheme, and play however you like.

Opinions?

Welcome back!

From what I can gather, Marines are best avoided. Orks might be good - there's a thread on their upcoming Codex you might want to check out. Necrons sound like they're in a strong place right now, but I can't comment directly.

I came back to 40K this past summer, by joining a league. It was an experience. I did learn though that Necrons are very cool. They were a lot of fun to play against and from what I saw quite a bit of fun to play. I might start there. Also, it doesn't hurt that you don't need to have a ton of models to be able to play.

I would also say that I'd avoid marines. While cool every other player is one these days.

Just my opinion of course....

If you don't like painting, orks are not for you. There is no army that needs as much painting as orks does.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Space marines are fine. People are just butt hurt sm are not the OP l337 sauce. Just go look at the new hellblasters, great unit.

Orkz really need help, hopefully it comes from chapter approved. There are a few things that are good, look at wierdboyz with a doc and a blob of boyz. You can create a crazy mob.

Necrons, have not seen them since AM dropped. No idea how they are doing.

My regular opponent since 8th edition kicked off is a Necron player. The new resurrection rules are pretty cool, with the models being rolled for every turn (unless they've run off from a failed morale test). In one game, I finished the game with literally zero models on the table, and my opponent finished the game with... two dead warriors. Everything else just got back up and continued to lay the smack-down on me. By the last two turns, I was rooting for the Necrons to win without a single dead model! It was a fun game, even if I was completely trounced. Given you're going to be trying to get to grips with a new rules set, it wouldn't hurt to come in with a resilient army that can take a bit of punishment. Orks seem like they'd be fun, but have a steeper learning curve.

Speaking for painting simplicity, there's nothing simpler. I did a 1750pt tournament army in a month (on a dare) - put my Tyranids on the shelf, and just smashed them out. Paint silver, wash black, drybrush silver. Paint a couple of details, and base. Done. Then you can spend time on your HQ and Elite units to make them really stand out.

I always preferred the "ceramic" looking Necrons to the metallic ones, personally.

As I've not read the Necron Codex yet, how do you stop Resurrection? I think I spotted a Necron player at the FLGS the other day and I suspect I may eventually come up against him.

They can't resurrect from failed morale checks - those models flee, rather than "die". I'm not sure if any more exceptions exist, I have not played enough games against them to find out!

Yeah SM are good provided you take Guillimann and plenty of assault cannon razorbacks.

Orks can work but are rather one dimensional. Lots of boyz blop(like 6x30 minimum) and charge forward hoping you don't run into heavy armour list as orks struggle to deal with them at range and good use of screens hinder taking them out in cc as well. You def want progressive scoring scenarios with orks rather than one where it's decided at the end of the game as orks play scenarios very well especially early game.

I guess then it's the perfect army for you, especially since orks leave a lot more to artistic freedom than most armies

When AOBR was everywhere I've seen many people start orks and drop them again in favor of an army that needed less painting, so it's a valid advice for someone who obviously like some armies because of their simple paint schemes

Marines are a trap list. Avoid them. Primaris is awful, and most marine units are overcosted.
